Michael, you have excelled yourself with your last entry. The donosaur and rocket are really good. I am glad you didn't put hurricane clouds in there. |

Congratulations on 1000! This is just a throwback to a HTCIF 2006 challenge, based on the The Gherkin and Le Voyage Dans la Lun. |

Re: Challenge 1000
Steve, congratulations on reaching Friday Challenge 1000, quite a milestone. Like Anna, I came across HTCIPS in a bookstore, back in CS4 days. That book & subsequent upgrades, along with 100% Photoshop, changed my Photoshop images from dabbling to the stuff I do today. I didn't post my first two efforts as I didn't feel I made the grade. Thank you for your time, wisdom & advice you put into the Friday Challenge. As Anna commented, you have created a community & I am sure our Photoshop skills have all benefited from your efforts. Thank you Steve. |

Good morning Steve Congratulations on the 1000th HTCIP. The last few years have been great fun for everyone. One of the things that I have loved has been the great sense of humour and the camaraderie of the forum. Looking forward to the next 1000👏👏👏👏👏 _________________ |

Re: Challenge 1000
First to jump into this week’s 1000th Challenge was DavidMac, with what I imagine to be a quick Michael Sinclair reference in the speeding clouds – and are the dinosaur and steam a nod to lwc? Well done with the slide show animation – yes, GIFs can be tricky. But you got the trademark Sinclair Jump in the clouds. Is there a relevance to LAntern? I like the second slide show, with the more realistic slide transitions. Sorry you had such a struggle with making the animation, though: yes, frame animations for GIFs are both tedious and time-consuming, and I enjoyed reading your seamless cloud tutorial. But you’d have found the whole thing vastly easier if you’d chosen video rather than frame animation as the starting point. Are you not aware of this? Check out my advanced animation video to see this, as well as some more tricks. Plenty going on in Ant Snell’s packed entry, with a busy yard sale table, lwc's moose and GKB’s plane. Best thing here, of course, is the neatly opened door of the van. You do need to check the perspective of that table, though: we should be able to see the left edge from this viewpoint. I managed about two and a half minutes of the animated version then I must admit I skipped to see if anything would happen at the end (as the soundtrack was making Carol give me strange looks) to see if anything would happen. It didn’t. Congratulations on your first animation, although Powerpoint wouldn’t be my first choice – you could have done all this directly in Photoshop! I’m not sure michael sinclair emulating the work of Michael Sinclair really counts as staying on topic, but I did like the animation. Would a lightning strike behind the house illuminate it from the front, though? You’re imitating your own style particularly well in the rusty van version, and I’m glad to see you fixed that rear wheel problem. I do like the dancing dinosaur image, with the meteor strike – although it doesn’t seem to have any effect on either the background or the dinosaur. A fun scene from Frank, with a tooquilos-style magic lantern – not sure who the Tony refers to, is it Ant Snell? A very nicely opened rear door and especially good van interior, though. A little puzzled by the dinosaur’s trail of smoke. A beautiful scene from Ben Boardman, with bouncy castle, converted van and plenty of children. It’s interesting, though, how AI-generated images – including the background seen here – are so clearly the work of AI: the clouds, flowers and birds would never have been made like that by a human. Good to see the enlarged poster, where all the real fun is happening:that’s one grisly dinosaur! Splendid. I like how Josephine Harvatt has turned the man into a monk, and I like the ghostly figure of the woman’s projection. I’m having a little trouble working out how Father Unctuous and his wayward sheep relate to the image, though, or indeed what the man in the high vis suit is doing in there. Still, it’s an entertaining piece of work. GKB has converted the building into an entrance to Jurassic Park, with a very fine sign – and I like the new mountainous background. The man peering out from the back of the van works well. Some nice movement in the animated version, and the explosions are spectacular. I like the flaming destruction at the end, and particularly the fact that the dinosaur is still moving despite having been reduced to a skeleton. I assume that the second and third versions, effectively stills from the video, are Michael Sinclair references. I’m assuming that the over-processed HDR effect in tooquilos's entry is a nod to Michael Sinclair’s fondness for this technique. I love how the flooded road has sent both themas and the dinosaur to the roof (with a newly created skylight). What’s that flaming object in the background? Ah – I see from the entertaining animated version it’s a Michael Sinclair bomb. I never would have thought of using the Proclaimers song for the soundtrack! Very nicely done. We’ve had a couple of previous examples of opening the van doors, but I think you’ll agree that Mariner's approach is exceptionally well done. I like how you’ve crammed all the objects into the back of the van, and especially the way you’ve grafted Freddy onto that body. Not sure what’s casting that sharp shadow on Freddy, though. Is the Museums R Us logo on the side a reference to my predilection for the source of many Challenge images? The man urinating in the field in the background is the driver, presumably. It’s a blast from the truly distant past from Tom, with a clever reconstruction of the famous scene in the Voyage dans la Lune film from 1902. Very nicely done – and good to see you back, Tom. ____ So it seems that the most imitable person on this Forum is the ‘inimitable’ Michael Sinclair, although Loyd’s moose and Gordon’s planes do get a look in. It’s always interesting to see how Forum members respond to a Challenge, and I was surprised not to see, for example, more imitations of Anna’s magical night scenes, or David’s spectacular lighting, or Mariner’s immaculate rebuilds (and oversaturated clothing). But an enjoyable week all the same, and many congratulations to all of you who ventured out of your safe space. |

Did you not see the dragon top left? That is what has been carrying off the sheep and the chap in the high vis with the knights helmet on is StG the owner of the pest control van. (I know it’s not 23 April yet but close enough) I think you need more morning coffee 😄 I would like to echo the thanks for all your work and mentoring over the last 1,000 entries Cheers Steve 🙂 _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

The sun is high in the sky, so I thought I'd put the roof's shadow on Freddy. Yes, this was a weak attempt to make you the subject of the Challenge. I failed on that, but it was great fun anyway. Yes the driver is relieving himself in the field! Thanks Steve. Lotsa fun! |

Re: Challenge 1000
They are more than a nod to Loyd, Steve. It's Loyd's entry not mine! I am afraid you are giving me credit where it is not due. I've left the live link in so you can see.
The cloud jump was of course my intention. The relevance of LAntern was simply, that in the form I used it, it has the shape of the body and beam of a lantern.
Since I had never animated before, no I wasn't aware of it. Because I was consciously imitating Mr. Sinclair's style of short GIFS I chose, in my ignorance, to frame animate. I have now looked at your tutorial and I see how much easier timeline would have been. It was not my intention to animate again but since this week's challenge begs for it I might just have a go using what I saw in the tutorial. It's still quite a learning curve from scratch and I don't have that much time next week so. we shall see.
My first thought was Ben or Frank because their style seemed so close to my own. I quickly found that that was a mistake because I couldn't stop being me and I realised that a style as far away as possible from my own would be easier. I picked Michael because I would be treading new ground and thus not hampered by established method and pre-conceptions of my own. I found this much harder than I expected and so, I suspect, did most of us. Very interesting idea Steve. Yes, the first entry was mine. The only thing about it that emulates Mr. Sinclair's work is some very exaggerated cloud speed. As I stated, it was just a 'quickie'. |

Thanks Steve - yes little of tooquilos magic, coupled with Ant Snells character style - hard to do - a little smoke coming off those running dino feet. |
