Re: Challenge 1015: A better view
I said I would post, at the end of the week, the original photo upon which my first entry was based. It is a classic by Henri Cartier Bresson. Now you can see how little I had to do!! ![]() ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1015: A better view
First to peer through the gap this week was DavidMac, with an ingenious reverse view showing the other side of the hoarding. I don’t recognise the image but from the style I’d guess Henri Cartier-Bresson. I like the shadow puppets – didn’t know about Steve Kaplin! There is one other Steve Caplin online, and I get most of his email. The extra b in the Babel entry is a fun addition, with a splendid tower behind. Love to have built your own tower? I think AI could have done that for you in seconds. The Cain and Abel version is cute. I can see how once you’d seen the pun you had to create the image. I was very amused by lwc's moose – particularly the way we can see its shadow through the hoarding. That’s the detail that really makes it for me. And of course the slight movement of the people. I enjoyed the elephants, with their swinging trunks visible only through the translucent hoardings. And yes, the man from photoshop.london is there too! I like how you’ve duplicated the people in the JCB version, while making them distinctly different: moving them closer together was a good decision here. Great squirrel! The tiger entry is very subtle, especially the way the two signs have been partly hidden. A real tiger, of course, would probably be chasing that drone. And I like the seven dwarves! Hi ho, indeed. A splendid relocation from Frank, with the people neatly moved indoors – and a curious range of wildlife at the window. Good fun, and nicely achieved. The dinosaur entry is fabulous: the combination of the vast size and menacing pose of the T Rex, and the indifference of the people – just splendid. It’s off to the desert for tooquilos, complete with passing camel. I won’t mention the tree shadows on the hoardings… A very bouncy camel in the animated version! definitely made up for by the rather wonderful dinosaurs, and of course the fire-breathing dragon. I like the elephant, too. What a great array of wildlife! I see GKB has been playing with his infrared camera again, and it certainly does create a powerful snowbound effect. Perhaps mix with a bit of colour on the building? Great intro title in the animated version, although the R and I could cross each other better. I do like the depth of field in the falling snow, and the lion (Aslan?) adds a great dash of colour that highlights the building well. I like michael sinclair’s blinking eyes, but I’m always bothered by exact symmetry when an image is duplicated and flipped horizontally. In cases like this I like to use the Healing Brush to quickly paint over some of the more prominent features alternately on both sides. It only takes a few seconds but it does prevent the giveaway symmetry: ![]() I like how you’ve moved the couple to the top of the tower in the windy entry, but I have two queries. First, why are they looking out of the frame rather than into it? Secondly, assuming the camera is on the tower as well, wouldn’t it be the background that sways relative to the viewer? You really scored with the train entry – a fantastic sense of motion, and I love the head turn! As David says, it shouldn’t work, but it does. One of your very best animations. It would be horribly nitpicking of me to point out that the train remains in the distance after it has passed by. I was most amused by the ice cream van - not only does the couple look a if they’re peering at the choices, their colouring matches the van perfectly. Excellent. Good work this week! |

Re: Challenge 1015: A better view
Nor did I! It was complete chance that I stumbled upon him in a picture search for 'shadow puppets'.
Where's the fun or satisfaction in that? I think, if I'd had the time, it would have been a fun thing to try and build. Incidentally, I discovered, during my picture search, that AI already has. There are numerous Tower of Babel images with that distinctive AI look.
