You said make it move. Well it moves, just not gracefully. (or horizontally)

Ha ha, certainly a lot going off there Dalton. I see you have taken well to the "Paste over Selection" feature, however, I'm sure the animation could do with some more optimisation though as you could probably bring down the filesize to less that 200k with a bit of tweaking.

Yep, and thanx for the information about the paste over ...( not as easy as it sounds)... was doing lots of experimentation last night lol.... well, it's one way to learn I guess
As for the filesize... I did fiddle about with it.... unfortunately doing so meant loosing eggbox's face as it was just covered in red dots and wasn't very recognizable .... I already had the file down below 200k just didn't like the result.. so decided it looked better with 256 colours... was either that or make it a very small animation in which case binoculars may have been needed to see it

As far as Paste Over Selection is concerned I've added 2 new tutorials to the Reader's Tutorial section one is about Tweening to a Path the other is Paste Over Selection - I think these will come in handy to help people with this week's Challenge.

Good tutorials Becky (and a highly recomended read)... the tweening is handy... I used it to move Ted up at the beginning of my animation.... unfortunately I couldn't use it for either the bird or the butterfly as both of their wings were flaping at different angles in each frame... and not only that but the size of the butterfly gets progressively smaller as it flies away and then gets hit by the flying wheel which knocks it off course.... so tweening wouldn't have worked well for this part of the animation.

You could have made all the butterfly layers visible on frame one of a seperate animation, duplicated this frame, then tweened the 2 frames. Once you have done that go through each frame turning off the visibilty of all but the appropriate layers for that frame. Then using the "Paste Over Selection" technique pasted this animation into the bike animation. This would have created frames that could have incuded alternate wing flaps, progressive scaling, and even nudging the latter frames to alter the flight path of the butterfly to correspond with the wheel hitting it.

So most things are possible within ImageReady/Photoshop but really it's all about making it work and as you seem to have accomplished that then one way is a good as the other.

Re: Contest 90: Make it move
I sure hope this works. I couldn't get it down below 200K even using only 60 colours. I attempted to make his legs move, but it was just too much for my first attempt..........so consider him coasting by!!

Maiden you're the best thanks so much for the help.
I have a new appreciation for you animation work as just moving the bike along without doing anything else wasn't bad, but having to make selections of his legs and other body parts and make them move was just too big a feat for me! My hat goes off to you!

Can't for the life of me figure out how to get the animation to show up here without having to click on the link, so this will have to do!!

Pauline to get the image to display change the "http" part of your url to "img" within the square brackets and it should bring it up. But don't use quotation marks for the url.

like so

Never thought of that ... ... seems too easy (if there's a hard way to do sumthin... I'll find it!) ...your way is definitely better ...I'll give it a go... cheers Becky!

You did a great job anyway,Pauline!Did you use ImageReady,or just save for the Web?Also, how did you get a file size over 100 k in?

Re: Contest 90: Make it move
One of the unfortunate things about making animations is getting the speed right.... my animation is a case in point... the amount of work I put into it goes past sooo fast that you don't even notice it... for example... I have the guy's legs peddling the bike.... but it's impossible to see... I've done a slow motion action-replay to show the animation frame by frame...

Re: Contest 90: Make it move
Hi Alice. I don't have image ready. I just used elements and save for web. Corel painter has animation capabilities that are different but I haven't had a chance to explore them.

I couldn't get it under 100 K (I think there was 17 layers), so it's hosted at Image Shack instead. Becky helped me put it in my message, as all I could figure out how to do was put a link in!!

I don't have any claims of fame and glory, but it's something that moves. Very difficult to get below the 100k limit.
