The story of the Eggs family. There are two theories for its origin. The first is that it is Danish as there is/was a family name of Aggs and that the males of the family came over during the Viking 600-800AD raiding party season, liked the iffy English 'four seasons in a day' weather and stayed. And the second is that it derives from an Anglo-Saxon word Egges meaning 'the edge of'. Thus I could have been Edweard egges Lake or Edweard egges Forest. At my age it now could be Teddy egges Life!! I also discovered there was a Sir Edward John Eggs in the 1570's. I've got to find where that went!! Which of the two it is I don't really know but, like me, the name is old. Ted |
