Jnette, you did a wonderful job. One thing you must remember is to stretch yourself. With this exercise most of us were taken out of our comfort zone and forced to do something we wouldn't have otherwise. Maybe next time instead of grabbing that clip art you might try to do it yourself! Welcome and I hope you join us every week. It really is a lot of fun. Tom! Great job on the flame. I was going to do some since they are fun to make but didn't want to overdo it. I love the window reflections and that gel icing 100 looks perfect. _________________ Pauline |

Lovely delicious cakes all round. Congratulations Steve for reaching your 100th challenge. It is a great tribute to the book (and to its author). For the last couple of weeks I have been enticed out of retirement with a case load of irresistable money. First to edit a video and then, for the next three weeks, to work at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. After that Nicole and I will have a break in France. I will be watching progress from the sidelines. Bon Chance! Ted |

I saw Steve on TV today - he was on the babay channel talking about playing eye spy! I am reading his book, participating in his website and then when I went downstairs for a break my wife was watchin tv and he was on it ...I thought I was losing my mind! _________________ Dead chicks don't say no. |

Re: Contest 100: The first century!
I tried so hard to make my cake look like a piece was taken out, and could not figure it out. Sometimes, jealousy is a good thing, I was so jealous of how everyone could do this but me. So, I stayed up most of the night...and I did it. Not perfect, but I am excited I learned a few new tricks with this project. |

Wow!! ... All really excellent entries this week and the fact that this is the 100th challenge certainly is a credit to Steve's perseverance with us all I knew this was going to be a very tough challenge as I'm not exactly brilliant at freehand drawing ... I would have liked to do more with this challenge but have to admit I struggled to even get this far Anyway I hope you enjoy all your photoshop cakes Steve ... the good thing is photoshop cakes contain zero calories |

Is it ok to ask questions in here or should I take them to the other forum? Pauline, your cake has that frosting look to it by not being smooth. How did you get it to look like that? I tried a few different things but never could get the right look. Plates: Everyones plate (except mine) looks very real, it looks like it is a bit deeper in the middle than at the edges. Again, how do you get that look? |

Every challenge in which I participate, stretch my abilities and increase my skills. Some of them nearly kill me. This one just about did! Not on the same par as many of the other entries, but the best I can do for someone who generally can’t draw a straight line. Congratulations on the 100th challenge, Steve. Hopefully, I will recover soon and be able to participate again soon! |

I have to finish two projects for my Photoshop class on Monday and I still found myself sitting hours doing that cake. Painful, very painful for my eyes and for my back…. Nice job everybody, very impressing. |

This is the winner for sure. It's always the little extras that make a difference and this work is just full of them. My guess is a title is coming your way too |

Gee thank you Paul. It definately was a back breaker and now I know why I let the kids do most of the baking. Honestly once it clicked and I figured out how to do what was needed it really started taking on a life of it's own. Once in a while you get a project like that and for me this was one of them. CWBasset, that is hilariious. It's great that you recognize all this hard work is actually paying off with an increase in skill. Eway that is terrific. Welcome. I confess to having a very sore back and shoulders on this one too. I would like to say I lost some weight from lack of eating, but sadly..........I just ate quicker. _________________ Pauline |

Re: Contest 100: The first century!
Jnette for your question on the icing. Well first I added a bit of noise to give it texture. I then had to add highlights and shadows to the cake. After that I used the plastic wrap filter. It needs the shadows and highlights to work off of. I think I might have used the smudge tool a bit afterwards also to push things around a bit. Now for the shading on the plates. In order for your object to have a 3 d look it needs shading and highlighting. 3 values are okay, 5 are better, etc. etc. You can use the dodge and burn tool to do this but my favourite way is to -create a new layer above my object. Make the blend mode overlay and fill with 50% gray. If you use the menu at the top of your screen you have these options --- layer -- new layer. -because the blend mode is set to OVERLAY it ignores grey and the grey will not show up on your pictures. -Change your default colours to black and white -get a large soft brush and paint with LOW opacity - painting in black shades -painting in white highlights I also find that it's best to make a selection of the area you are working on first. It takes some experimentation but it really is a great non distructive way of working. If you have any further questions feel free to ask. The whole point of being here is to learn and no one minds sharing. _________________ Pauline |

Re: Contest 100: The first century!
In Sweden a very popular kind of cake is called Princess cake. This cake is covered with (usually) green marzipan. This is what I have tried to create in this image. This "candle stick" wouldn't take more than 40 candles. I guess the cake this would be called a Steve cake, he's in there for the first time ever in my case, and you would see him iif you look at the cke from the top. This is the first time I have created everything, literally everything (textures, shapes &c), in the image from scratch and I must say I learned a lot from it. It has been fun but has required a lot of patience. It has bee said before this week, but the entries in this, the grand 100, are all very good. The image you will see below _________________ Only in my brightest moments I understand myself |

Some amazing entries this week. Steve really will have his work cut for him. Was it the competiton or the prize that made everybody try that little bit harder? Whaler your mention of 'Princess' cake made my moth water, but the marzipan needs to be a softer green. |
