That's EXACTLY what I wanted to know Steve; however, when you say "fill" with chrome, I was of the understanding that one could onlly "fill" withe one colour. So what I really, really want to know is how do I fill it with chrome effect, or what appears to be my own shading?

As always my gratitude to you--Michael

Thanks for the comments, Steve.

To continue with Michael's thought;
It is easy to delete an elliptical selection from the top of a cylinder but I found no easy way to modify the bottom edge.
For example; Slightly changing the shape of one ellipse to another. ( on the bottom of a cylinder )

Steve, --------- I don't get the rounded edge along the front like you have shown ---------

Steve, sorry, I didn't make my query very clear, it's the curve at the base that I was asking about. How do you get it to be as shown in the picture?

Steve, Thanks for your comments. Yes, I used the plastic wrap on that base
Tom, Loved your tutorial Tried it out and love the effect. Thanks!

Rufus. To get the curved look on the bottom, you just need a little shading. The way I would do it is this
After you erase the bottom with the ellipse marquee, nudge the marquee up a little. Then feather the marquee some to soften the selection. Next, on a new layer select edit>stroke, and stroke the marquee with gray to black at 50% opacity. Ctrl Click to select the original object and clean up the bottom, and erase the top portion of the marquee that you don't need. See below.
