If, like me, you can't do bubbles then do as the book says.....and cheat! |

After Tom's truly inspiring piece, I couldn't help but have another play with my submission. I hope you don't mind, Tom! This is the first time I've tried painting makeup on a face. Thought I'd give it a shot. |

Re: Contest 130: Forever blowing bubbles
My efforts this week turned out to emphasize the background more than the foreground (the bubble). I also added some color popping. _________________ Only in my brightest moments I understand myself |

Thanks Gordon. Tank, I really like the shape and consistency of your bubbles. With the main bubble is she blowing up an elephant? |

Re: Contest 130: Forever blowing bubbles
So I actually had time to do one this week. I had the idea of blowing fire as well (before seeing the other fine entries). I decided to take a darker approach. I really feel bad I haven't been able to participate in more challenges lately. Anyhow here is my entry for this week, hopefully I will be able to keep up again: _________________ -Atomic |

In this entry I have worked a little bit more on the bubbles and also modified the background slightly. _________________ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: Contest 130: Forever blowing bubbles
When I posed this week's Challenge, I wondered if anyone would find it interesting. And it seems you did: such a great set of inspired entries! it's been an interesting technique to learn, and not one that you probably will have attempted before. This is definitely one for the fourth edition - with all your entries, naturally! First to raise the bubble wand was Steve Mac, with a big array of rather transparent bubbles. I like the way the first one is distorting through the wand, setting a trend many others were to follow. There's a real smoothness to the animation in the second entry, and changing the shape of the lips is a neat touch! There's something a little bubblegum-like about the third entry... Some good distortion from mguyer: a little more lighting, and colour, would have helped the bubbles along, though. Not sure about the fuzziness in the second entry - but the bubble pots are welcome! A rare (these days) entry from Pauline gives us some good distortion, and excellent colouring and shading on the first bubble. Curious about the shape, though: the left side should, surely, be round? A colourful entry from Dek_101, with bubbles that, somehow, are a little fuzzy round the edges. I'd keep those perimeters crisp! Much better in the second entry though. Great distortion, and very subtle colouring and lighting in Baby Biker's entry. Again, though, I'd like to have seen a little more strength and definition to the bubble shading, but it's a close call. And is it Valentine's day already? The second entry would certainly imply that it's almost upon us! And a truly hilarious third entry! A real rainbow of shades from vicho, with added graphic elements. These create a good sense of movement, and it's interesting to see the wind shown in this way. A most innovative bubble texture! One giant bubble from Dirtdoctor23 - with a fine swirling texture and some subtle distortion. Not sure the second entry is better: the extra pink overlay seems to mask too much texture, I feel. A slew of small, but perfectly formed, bubbles from Wayne, each with beautiful shading (a great window reflection!) and distortion. About the most realistic so far, I'd say! I do think the second entry is a step in the wrong direction, though. A great fire-breathing act from ben - which turned out to be the first of several. Fitting the fire into her mouth has been done well: but I have a bit of a problem with the hardness of the far end. Bit more finger smudging here, perhaps? And an extremely soft-edged second entry! Good colouring from james, but I'd like to see the edges crisper - and we really need that distortion through the bubbles! A truly splended animation in the second entry: the changing shape of the mouth, the motion of the bubble, and the burst at the end - terrific! A mild bubble effect, with distortion, from dave.cox: again, there's a fuzziness to the edges that I don't think real bubbles would have. Well, I was looking for crisp edges and well-defined bubbles - and certainly found it in Tom's entry! These vast crystal forms look like they might shatter into a heap of broken glass if they bumped into anything. Gorgeous, though! A neat mountain scene from GKB, who's gone the extra mile and reflected the girl's face in each bubble. Neat! Except it isn't quite a reflection; and shouldn't she be curved around the surface? A very good touch adding the blue and red cheeks, though. Love the second entry! And there's a beautiful glassiness to the third entry. A really funny animation from Michael Sinclair, with ol' Liberty waving her bubble wand on a massive scale. Great texture matching when you move her arm over! And the second , third, fourth, fifth and sixth entires are wonderful! Such good expressions! Maiden's bubbles may be a little solid - but rebuilding the girl from bubble mixture is a stunning job. And an expertly rebuilt kitchen surface refracted through her, too! So you think that's a serving hatch, rather than a door? Some excellent smoke rings from Ben Mills, with an artfully removed wand and some fine extra shadow. Beautiful! More fire - this time from Neal, who's added an artfully singed wand as well. Ouch! Looks like tank172 has been at the 3D modelling apps again! Gorgeous bubbles, a real glass-blowing frenzy with fabulous texture. And the extra colour in the second entry is excellent. A fine gag from j.harvatt, with real thought bubbles - and the fish has a suitably surprised expression! A single big bubble from Glen. It looks a little smoky, though: have you been following Ben Mills' technique first? Beautiful reflections from BigVern, with swirling colours that really accentuate the surface. And some neat reflections as well - very fine work! A novel approach from Eggbox - interesting idea! The more classical second entry has well defined bubble edges, but shouldn't we see more colour inside them as well? A nice cartoon approach from Whaler: but shouldn't the bubble itself have a black outline as well? Nice textures in the second entry. A really funny entry from Pierre, with a great bubblegum scene that's deceptively simple. Look at all the extra detail: the distorted face, the puckering of the bubble where it joins the mouth, the splatters of previous bubbles on the face... classy! Stunning fire-blowing from Atomicfog, with fantastic shading: the reflection of the fire in the eyes is an excellent addition. Fabulous. Well, I'm certainly going to include at least one entry from each of you in the tutorial in the fourth edition. But having seen the quality of the work, I'm going to have to revisit my own tutorial on this one! So many good ideas and executions! Well done, everyone, this has been a stunning challenge. |

Thank you for your comments Steve. Michael Sinclair your animation is great. I really need to get to learn animation in PS. I would love to see the bubbles popping on the spikes of Liberty's crown? |
