Re: Contest 161: Reflection exercise
Thanks Steve. After I posted it I kept looking at the bow of the boat hoping that you wouldn't notice it. That was a great exercise, I enjoyed that one as, it seems, did everyone else. Neil I'm amazed that you can turn out work like that on a 12" screen - what on earth will your images be like when you get that 30" Apple Cinema screen?? Gordon |

Thanks Steve. I would never have thought the reflection would be like that. Re the prow, I was trying to reflect part of the right side that obviously we couldn't see but would be in the reflection! |

Re: Contest 161: Reflection exercise
I learned a lot from this week's competition; however, one thing puzzles me about the Mercury outboard motor, and that is that in the reflection, the word Mercury and its logo are triplicated ( a sort of counter-reflection within a reflection). Why is this so? I have also seen this phenomenon in other photos. |

Good morning Michael, It's because each little wave acts as a separate mirror. |

Well apart from the fact that I didn't put any texture on the water and got the boat reflection all wrong it was pretty spot on! _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Re: Contest 161: Reflection exercise
Thanks for the feedback, Steve. I did notice the point about the reflection of the inside of the boat after I'd posted it. But good point about the ripples getting smaller. As an aside, for some reason, hotchips has logged me out and won't accept my password to log me back in again. Is it possible for you to reset my password so that I don't lose my title and history? Thanks. katew |

Thank you Steve for your comments and tips. I must say, Im quite surprised to see the reflection of the child and the instructor in the water. A lot of discussion took place here as to whether they should be or not and the general consensus was they wouldn't be. How wrong we were |

Re: Contest 161: Reflection exercise
Michael, waves are like a series of curved mirrors that reflect at different angles depending on the shape of each wake. At the point of snapping a photo, two waves can be reflecting the same object but at a different perpective depending on the size and shape of their wake. Thanks Steve for your comments. I now see why the bow reflection should have been further away. Steve wrote: "I don't think anyone would have expected it to look like this!" I agree. The slightest change in the water surface and cloud cover can change the reflections dramatically. _________________ Steve Mac |

Thanks Steve. I see what you mean about the texture. Now that I look at it, of course, I see that you are correct. I didn't think of it when I was working on it though. |

Thank you for the compliment Gordon. (I use the "zoom" shortcut on a regular basis!!) I would be in Heaven with a 30" Cinema screen!!! Thanks Steve, but I am totally shocked that you didn't notice the ripples behind the boat near the motor. You never miss a thing! _________________ "I haven't failed....
