Many thanks for all your good wishes. They do seem to be doing the trick - I'm out of hospital now, having spent 12 days being fiddled with, prodded and tested, and eventually treated with immunoglobulin from the blood of 1000 generous American donors. Thanks, all of you.

Turns out I had a condition called Guillain Barre Syndrome, which meant I was unable to use my hands or legs. About 90% recovered now, although typing still rather slow. So if you don't mind, I won't do the usual write up this week - just to say that, collectively, you've cheered me up a great deal. I'll try to write up last week's Challenge when I can.

Thanks again for your concern

Steve

Hi Steve, I have not been around on the site certainly for a long time. I was alarmed to see you were unwell but reassured to see your posting again.

I am familiar with Guillain Barre Syndrome, as you will remember I am an avid fan of Liverpool FC. One of our players was struck by the illness some years ago. A german player by the name of Markus Babbel. He ended up in a wheelchair for a short while and we all feared for his career. However he made a full recovery and went on to play for several years after. I read his comments about the condition and have to say it is scary. I am glad to hear your back and are recovering, I wish you all the best.
