Nothing from me this week, I'm afraid. I've had a very heavy week and no time.

I didn't think I would make it either, but had a spare hour this morning. So this is a real rush job.

Frazetta,

I love the sweep of the hair, it frames the face so well, and she is beautiful.

Thank you very much James, I made my very best effort

Re: Contest 205: The makeover
A fantastic set of images this week. I've had to keep the original open so I can keep referring to it - there have been some subtle changes!

First to open the makeup box was Nick Curtain, who's done a good job of removing the excessive eyeshadow and freckles and has added some more subtle blush and lipstick. Good work around the chin as well, and a great cutout on that hair - I especially like the way it's been pulled in front of the neck.

Rather stronger lipstick from gaoxiguo: the work here has gone into boosting the skin tones, and softening the skin texture. Very well accomplished, with clear, smooth skin and a warm, rosy glow.

A soft-focus look for mguyer, who seems to have smeared a whole tub of vaseline on his lens. Actually, the blurred background effect works rather well: but the eyes stand out as too sharp against the over-softened face, the eyebrows and bridge of the nose especially looking too vague. And the distinction between sharp and blurred stands out even more in the second entry!

Luis has gone for a change of hair colour, and some rather more sparkly eye shadow. It's a good combination, and the eyeliner has been well toned down here - neatly removed while leaving the eyelashes intact, which can't have been easy. Not sure that's a perfect choice of lipstick for her - something stronger with the darker hair, I think.

Something rather bizarre from Steve Mac: this is a makeover inspired by Picasso, surely. I like the new ear, in theory at least; but combined with the rather mad eyes, it does give her a hand-built appearance. Good new jawline, though.

I think we could all do with a couple of implants from tooquilos: certainly, her hair, mouth and glasses do fit perfectly onto this face. And the treatment of the jacket is fantastic! Some very subtle touches here, such as the soft shadow from the glasses and the neat jewellery removal - very nice work.

Ben Mills' entry really made me laugh out loud - wonderful! It's just this side of plausible, which makes it all the more appealing. The nose and eyelashes are superb. Brilliant!

An excellent job from Ellen, with subtle reshaping of the jaw, mouth and eyes. It's been achieved with tremendous restraint: this girl would recognize herself here, and would be hard pressed to spot what's been changed. I like the detailed work on the earrings, too! Very good indeed, Ellen.

I like the new earrings from dave.cox, and this shade of lipstick does suit her better. Good freckle toning, too: but I really would like to see that eyeliner gone.

New member Taylour has spent a lot of time enlarging the body and matching it to the original head - and it's a good fit, but a little more contrast on the jacket would help. A subtle makeover, with most of the work going into the wrinkles on the neck. Beautifully removed earrings, though, and the lips look much better. I lie the reshaped jaw in the second entry - and the neck is neatly cleaned up, too. Welcome to the forum, Taylour!

A much better hair colour from Tom, with lipstick to match. The smoothed skin is much improved, and the eyes are much more appealing than before. Is that just a hint of a stud earring in there?

Rather more drastic surgery from Maja - but the end result is beautiful. There's a winsome feel to this picture, with a greatly modified jaw and some much-needed stronger eyebrows. Very appealing - but the hair is a bit of a problem, with too much evidence of smearing. There's enough on the left to be able to copy and patch it elsewhere, without resorting to the Smudge tool. Overall, though, this is a beautiful piece of work, and well deserving of a title for you. So, let's see... for an ex-librarian, I'm going to go for Dewey Decimator. (Not sure about the second entry, though.)

Fantastic animation from James: the flapping wings on the wasp and the moving eyes are great in themselves, but the way the eyebrow, mouth and nose twitch is just superb. As to the makeover part.... um... I think you need to get out more...

A collagen-fuelled entry from AndyL, who's beefed up the lips - but is there a touch of a snarl there now? Neatly removed earrings, though, and the tweaked eyes are more appealing.

Great to see Vibeke dropping in, even while on holiday in Lyon. A very fresh-looking entry, with some significant toning: bringing that hair in front of the face does certainly help soften the jaw line. Hope the rain clears up for you!

A startlingly good entry from Meltonian: some strong reshaping is the key here, producing a more elfin look that's altogether far more appealing. Excellent! I especially like the alluring green eyes.

Another new member this week - and Ctee has given us a purple theme, from the jacket through to the lipstick. It's a gothic shade that would really benefit from some added eye shadow, I feel: but I do like the lightened hair. Watch you don't strip off the eyelashes along with the eyeliner! I like the effect in the second entry - but you need to tone down the saturation here a little. Welcome to the forum!

A soft-focus approach from Mick Malkemus, who's added some tasteful makeup as well as clearing up the skin. I like the reshaping of the hair on the left, which adds body - and the earrings do look far better in gold.

A novel approach from Eva Roth, who's taken off all the makeup - and it does look a lot better. Not sure why we've lost eye contact, though, and again - be careful not to lose the eyelashes. A more natural look, indeed.

A huge makeover from brewell, with new hair makeup and earrings - and the suggestion of a whole new body. It's well blended in, but I'm not sure that's the right place for a shoulder - far too close to the face, surely? And she needs her neck back!

Our third new member this week is pdcollins6092, whose turned her into a brunette - with especial attention to the eyebrows, which has been well achieved. The removal of the eyeliner has lost the lower lashes, but it's a good shade of lipstick and I like the new jacket. A touch of extra shading where the neck joins the jacket would help to blend it in here. Welcome to the forum, Paul.

Intricate work from Josephine Harvatt, who's retained the eyelashes, extended the eyebrows and given the hair a good red tint. Certainly, an improvement: and yet another entry with a fondness for green eyes!

Good to see GKB has taken some retirement time off to complete his entry. Hmmm... not entirely sure about the wrinkles, but I love the texture of the hair! I really hope the original model doesn't come across this forum...

Amazing how much different new hair can make: katherine's replacement wig has given her a completely different appearance, much to the better. The altered jawline and lip gloss are a huge improvement, too: a very appealing entry.

An interesting entry from bjansen, whose model is - er - well, as you say, I'm not entirely sure it's an improvement. Has she got a mouth full of mothballs?

A rather wonderful animation from michael sinclair, with a massive remodelling of the face, glamour hair and a splendidly achieved pout and blink. Not to mention the rather noticeable new body. Excellent stuff, Michael - a real triumph.

A strong entry from Vicho, with a new jawline, perfect complexion and effective makeup. It's a huge improvement - but the hair edges look a little artificial against this background.

A bit of a cheeky pout from DanLundberg, with a softened jaw and some eyeshadow to match the new lipstick. The hair looks rather like it's made of plastic, though: a little shading would have helped to blend this in, and perhaps a few loose strands.

Very interesting work from Gothic007: the reshaping is effective, but I'm concerned that she looks a little worried here. Is it just the shape of the eyebrows? Great new earrings, though, which certainly match her darkened hair and the severe new appearance.

A mystical approach from Jeppe Junior: talk about putting women on a pedestal! It's a well achieved statue, although the glow does have rather too hard edges for my liking.

A very natural look from Deborah Morley, with splendidly treated eyelashes and a great new tint to the hair. Subtly removed earrings, too, and a more appealing figure altogether.

Dramatic new hair from Frazetta, which frames the shape of the face perfectly: and the face itself has been strongly reshaped for a tighter, more attractive appearance. A few loose strands needed to soften the edges of the hair, but otherwise this is a very accomplished piece of work, with great makeup and subtly strengthened eyebrows. Great stuff!

A rare appearance from Elliott - with a largely monochrome entry, picked out with dashes of colour. Works well on the lips and irises, but are we sure the redness around the eyes is the right approach?

Some dramatic eye shadow from mariong - clearly applied in something of a hurry, as most of it seems to have spilled over onto the hair. Were you applying this on a train? The blush on the cheeks is a good touch, though, and I like the lipstick.

Good to see so many entries this week!

Thanks Steve,
I'm afraid it was a bit of a rush job and I do agree about the 'wrinkles'. By the time I realised that I had gone OTT it was too late to start over again so I posted 'as is'.

Thanks Steve. Good feedback! I actually think it's more of an aura than a glow.

Thanks. I took it this week to go on the Art&Design book - after Eggbox's comment about my photo in How to Cheat in Photoshop CS3, I realized I've been using the same one for years without noticing it!

Thanks Steve for your comments.

Actually, it was very easy to do. I removed most of the eyeliner which got rid of the original eyelashes. Then, all I used was a set of eyelash brushes to put them back in.

Re: Contest 205: The makeover
Thanks for your comments as always, Steve! I wasn't aware my approach was so novel, sorry if it's a bit bland! I treated this as a practise piece - putting in different eyes, moving the stud to a different place, retouching hair and skin etc. And we lost eye contact because I made her look in a different direction - to do with the plastic surgery...
