Dennis. Reminds me of my old childhood school train. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 851: The train carriage
David I was not thinking of The Son of Man but I do now see the similarity. The problem I had to solve was "why is he looking so surprised?" and, after trying out an irate station master, and a soldier with a machine gun, this solution worked best. |

Thanks David and Vibeke for your positive comments. I thought I would have the "brass neck" to show one of my old "train carriage" entries: |

Re: Challenge 851: The train carriage
Interesting to see this week’s Challenge kicking off with Mariner's 2013 entry: I’d completely forgotten I’d set exactly the same challenge 8 years ago. Would this week be a rare Forum dud, I thought? It turns out not… First ‘real’ entry was from DavidMac, a neat reference to Oscar Wilde’s play The Importance of being Earnest, whose central character admits to having been found, as a baby, in a handbag on Victoria Station. “A handbag?” was the catchphrase, spoken in a long drawn-out drawl in the 1952 film version by Edith Evans as Lady Bracknell. (Footnote: I was in a production of the play at school when I was 12. I played Gwendolen. Don’t laugh. Footnote 2: at the premiere in 1895 the part of Ernest was played by George Alexander, who later built the house I grew up in.) An evocative second entry, featuring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson in the film Brief Encounter - featuring Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto. Splendid Gandhi in the third entry, and great to see the original scene from your film. Good stuff! A rather more upmarket carriage from GKB - but then yours is first class! Excellent motion from lwc, both through through the window and in the juddering of the train itself. I like the fact that you’ve added a corridor, but of course that would really necessitate a change of door to a sliding one. Good to see the moose back! A beautiful entry from Josephine Harvatt, with a splendid choice of characters. Those dresses don’t leave a lot of room for other passengers, do they. I like the view. Perfect work, Josephine. Very fine work from Vibeke, with the Downton cast naturally seated - I like how they’re looking towards the campaign-wielding camera operator. That guard is a nice addition. Great composition, and nicely executed. A murder mystery from Frank, and this film has everything: bloodstained seats, a couple of corpses, and Poirot himself appearing as the blind rises. Tremendous use of sound, too. Excellent, Frank. It’s Harry Potter time from DougD, with an atmospheric scene - excellent fitting of the characters into the space. Best of all for me is the snow storm outside the window, which really gives it character. I don’t recognise the woman in tooquilos's entry, but I know a lyre when I see one. A great moody setting, and I like the new lamps. An amazing animated version, with terrific lighting effects as the landscape changes through the window. And that’s a seriously spooky mansion! The 3D modelled corridor, the ticking metronome - splendid! I’m increasingly astonished by the sudden renaissance of michael sinclair. In the last few months your work has taken a huge leap forward, which I don’t think is entirely down to your subscription to Photoshop CC. This entry is one of your best yet, with excellent walking motion. Very, very small point: the No Smoking sign on the inner window, and the sign on the right hand window, should be in front of the walkers. But I’m nitpicking - this is excellent work. Love the jiggle. And it’s good to see a reprise of the old train carriage. I always like this one, although I’d lose the bat. A tremendous cast of characters from dwindt - and modelling all of these in 3D must have taken forever. Great costumes, and a fine sense of chaos about the scene. I like the opened door, and the new corridor. Good work! A glorious Chaplin homage from Mariner, complete with added pigeons. What an extraordinary viewpoint of CC! Is that really him? Where on earth did you find it? Outstanding work this week from everyone. |

Thank you, Steve, I really enjoyed this one and from the look at the wonderful entries from everyone else, they did too. _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

I knew you would get the Oscar Wilde reference straight away!
All boys school? Co-ed's much more fun ...... but you don't get to play girls. Glad you like the entries. I was a bit out of inspiration this week. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thank you Steve. With the introduce of dForce, a clothing and hair simulator, and the improvement of the Daz models, i'm using them more and more...but it is time consuming...but more brain work is used when tying the whole scene together...getting the tones to sync, correcting lighting and introducing shadows and reflections...oh, and cutting the models where they would intersect the background scene. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |
