...or maybe not...

Re: Contest 89: Mother's Day
I have a complaint to make, I'm not a complaining person, but I simply have to.

I don't like gifs being entered in this forum, at least not in this section of the forum. Just because an image moves doesn't make it any better. I'm not amazed by this "wonder" that it moves. It doesn't add to image, quite the contrary.

Take Glen's or Pierre's pictures for example, they are so much better than all things moving I've seen here (no offence intended). And mguyer's picture in another section of this forum is brilliant (http://www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com/cgi-bin/simpleforum_pro.cgi?fid=04&topic_id=1141854573). That picture doesn't move but you still get a FEELING of motion which, to me, creates a lasting impression. The gifs don't. If gifs are to be entered in this forum I think they should have their own section, "GIFs only", or whatever the section should be called.

I don't have anything against technical development, but I refuse to accept that anything new is good. Today using gifs is a regression, the technique is its infancy.

And in my opinion gifs should NOT be used for avatars, they are just distracting. I'm not fond of having maybe ten avatars showing on my screen, blipping - blopping. And that goes for moving smileys, too.

So, to all you GIFFS (if I may call all of you who like creating gifs that) out there, please refrain from using gifs here and in your avatars. I would appreciate that very much, especially since we have seen many talented entries from you in this forum that were not moving.

You could always go to your Internet Explorer and click on ...Tools>Internet Options..... and under the Advanced Tab if you scroll down the list there is a setting that says.. . 'Play Animations In Web Pages' ..... if you un-tick that ...then click Apply....and then Refresh the web page.... all the animations will stop playing. Creative people will always want to be creative whether it be making static pics or moving ones hopefully it's a phase....and it'll pass lol

Thanks, Dalton.

That's a relief! The problem now is that i can't see how creative you are. Catch 22, I suppose.

You're very welcome... I know animations can be annoying sometimes... I was just having fun doing my ones this week cuz I found ImageReady .... don't think I'll be keeping them though... but the novelty hasn't wore off yet.... give it a week at least

I couldn't agree more Whaler - a section on its own would be great. I did ask for the stop sign to be stoped but.... it's still there flashing away, oh how funny it is, how clever too, how much more impact it makes to bring the point home - I could weep

Dalton, great tip but what if you're not using IE ? I can't find the stop the annoying stuff button on safari but oh I wish I could.

Glen, try Camino.
I think it's faster and you can stop animations.

If you take a closer look at your picture, you will notice what she is unhappy about.
