Re: Contest 154: Cartoon faces
Steve Mac, Tooquilos, Vibeke and Wayne thanks for the nice feedback. I was trying for the anime/manga look so I am glad that that impression came across. Googling "how to draw Manga" helped a lot. I was not aware of Marine Boy but have now Googled it and see what you mean, tooquilos. I also thought that the original image looked a lot like Ms Diaz; it was such great hair that I felt it was the perfect image to cartoonise. Vibeke - liking more than one girl would get me into trouble! |

Some really cool work! I especially like Stephan's 'medieval Marge' one... very cool! Here's a link to one I did for a contest, you can view the originals there as well. Thanks Hi-liter (Somehow I always read "hitler" instead of hi-liter), but that's probably because I live in Germany now.... |

Re: Contest 154: Cartoon faces
Nice to know I'm not alone with the 2 post issue - so here's my 2nd and last for this week. Looks like its a winner to redraw the features on another layer as applying the find edges filter looks just like... well that you've found the edges and the result is not that cartoon like. The ones that work for me are the line drawings that even disney would have been proud of. So...here's my take on how I got from reality to Springfield in four steps with a little liquify and added layers for outline and colour. I feel that it's important to pick ther right photo to "simpsonise' as most of the characters are hardly seen face on, mostly three quarters or sideways, I used reference images to help create the features in a Matt Groening style. Likewise using reference with GB - cheers Dek for the comment _________________ minds are like parachutes - they only work when they are open |

Glen - great idea to use liquify before tracing the photo. Wish I'd thought of that! I realise, however, that I'm risking the wrath of the forum by telling you as this is my *third* post of the week... |

Wah! I can't draw! LOL... Anyway, here's my entry, in case I don't get anything better done and uploaded tomorrow (as I won't be near a computer much) And who else could I choose but the human cartoon himself... Jim Carrey! |

Re: Contest 154: Cartoon faces
I agree with the limit on postings, but are we not allowed to give someone a compliment or ask questions about a technique someone uses to get a certain result? I'm just wondering because this is the only forum I've ever belonged to and one of the reasons I've stayed so long is due to the inspiration that everyone seems to feed on as the week progresses. Isn't that what forums are about? Just this week alone I have created three other versions of my post because of feedback throughout the week. If I can't raise my hand in class until after school is over, the answers to my questions sort of become irrelevant. Inspiration comes from being motivated in the moment not to be shelved for another time. Steve or David, forgive me for my ignorance as I have not been here from the beginning but I'm assuming if there is any issues you would let us know. I have great respect for everyone here. Please do not take this post the wrong way, this is just my view from where I am sitting and the way I see it, we have the best seat on the internet!! Thanks! _________________ Steve Mac |
