Wow, I take a few months off to build a house and the forum triples in size. The work is fantabulous (if that's a word) A testament to Steves abilities.
Keep up the good work everyone.

I hope to be able to post some work here in the future. Building a home and moving is a pain in the keaster.

Don't wanna get into a discussion but I don't see what all the fuss about Becky's GIF is all about. I thought it was brilliant and I don't understand why it should disturb people. Just don't look at it then...it's as simple as that.
This is just the thing I usually hate about Forums. This endless going on about....things that aren't important or relevant really (in my humble opinion of course...). Let's stick to the images.
So come back Becky......

I think that we should discuss whether posh and becks (sorry mcguyer and eggbox) have become to famous with there new positions of power for us lesser mortals on the forum to associate ourselves with?

Oh man I was just reading back through the pages and have just realised Becky really has left the forum!! I'm stunned! I think Maiden is a really talented artist and when she put her mind to it always produced original, witty and high quality work. Maiden was also one of the old timers on this site as well. Becky will be sadly missed by me.

Becky if you just pop your head in from time to time hopefully you might see it differently in a few days and may i ask you to reconsider? Please!

Re: Contest 89: Mother's Day
I don't understand this! Why is it that just because you haven't heard from Becky for three days you assume she has left the forum? You know what she does for her job - have you thought of a lousy shift pattern? She said as much either last week or the week before as the reason she had posted late into the Friday Challenge. I have been through the postings this week and apart from a mild spat three days ago (10am(ish) 27th) I have not read anything since that would indicate that she had any intention to leave this group - unless, of course, anyone has received a PM to that effect. Give the woman a break!

OOps sorry one and all. I hadn't gone back far enough to find she had overwritten an earlier post. I hadn't thought of that. All I had been reading was the later normally written postings. As the post wasn't redated - when did this happen? This is a real shame. She is a very talented artist.

To Maiden

If I have contributed to your decision about leaving this forum when entering the debate about gifs. then I apologize. You leaving this forum was certainly not my intention when I wrote what I did.

I know that you are a very talented person and I'm sure others who have seen your entries here and have visited your home page agree.

So I wish you welcome back.

I have written a mail to this effect to Maiden Any one wishing to do the same can do this at maiden@maidenart.co.uk.

I hope more people will do the same, we need Miaden here at this forum.

Re: Contest 89: Mother's Day
Seems like Whistler has a few new fans this week. And his old mother has had quite a time of it!

Born2Run kicked thiings off with a rather bizarre image of me performing for the dear old biddy, although the performance doesn't seem to have done much to cheer her up. Good texture matching, though - you've got that canvas effect well on the body. I like the second image, but she doesn't look like she's part of the game. Perhaps she should be closer? and larger? Good poker hat, though.

A far more cheerful expression from mguyer - and youthful, too. Having a grandchild to occuper her has taken years off her. The baby seems a little pink in relation to the overall greenish cast of the original, though; maybe it's just an extremely bonny child. Aha! A second entry! That fixes everything!

A great composition by mr.pbody, with fantastic attention to detail: the brickwork is excellent, the dust works well, the skewed picture is a freat touch, and I do like that dinosaur. Mrs W seems strangely unmoved by the event, though. Has she perhaps been stuffed?

Well, we've certainly got a cheerful mother from Peter Edwards. Great hands, a goopd gag, and a really well constructed newspaper; and the champagned on the floor is a nice touch. I wonder, though, at the length of her right forearm: having that arm outstretched from the shoulder would have made a lot of sense!

A really good idea from jwhite (what? no cuddly animals this week?) and an artfully extended room. You must come and lengthen my curtains for me some time. My only problem is with the scale and colouring of the extra people; they don't seem to match the suroundings at all. A bit of blank wall texture over the top would really have helped! A great second entry, too. I'm sure she'd go faster if those blades were spinning, though.

A fine silver surfer from Dek_101, with some great detail: the new Turner painting, the flying ducks (with the crooked final one), the old painting against the wall, this site on the laptop, and a great painted child. But grandma does seem to be gazing into space, rather. A slight tilt downward on the head, perhaps?

With a performing, juggling cat like the one raffy has given us, you'd think old Ma W would be at least vaguely impressed. Even the new Botticelli doesn't liven her up. But what's that? A hint of a smile on her lips? Talk about subtlety!

A great piece of work from Pauline, with a fully textured child in an excellent pose. Best of all is the artfully tilted head: this is a really nice touch, and it works really well. Good work, Pauline!

Whistler meets H R Giger? Tank172 may not have cheered her up, but at least now Granny has some other hobby to occupy her. Wouldn't want her playing with my children, though!

Tom's granny doesn't seem any happier than she was before, despite the crowd of Mother's Day well-wishers. Maybe she should stop hiding behind that chair? And that's a hell of a hamburger they're about to tuck into!

Fantastic work from Bob - perfect texture on the photographer, and his new sandals look much more comfortable. The appearance of Marty in the painting is a really nice touch, too, and the whole scene works a treat - especially the photographer's shadow, which ties the whole thing together. Excellent! The power chair in the second entry does seem to have done the job, though - a great idea, and a fantastic expression on her face. All in all, it's a seamless and convincing montage. Certainly time for a title for you, Bob! It's the expression that really does it for me - so Expert Expressionist it is. Congratulations!

A very painterly approach from DaltonX, with great texturing all round, and a well constructed new window - and I especially like the way the curtain folds back in front of it. And what a great expression! A little confused about the shadows in the second version, though - where, exactly, is that light around the window being cast from? Another window opposite? It's a good lighting effect, but I don't quite see how it relates.

Fantastic consistency from Paul2005, a great composition and a fantastic expression on her face. This is thoroughly convincing, and a really good updating of the original. Great, Paul!

The combination of objects, background and expressions in Steve Mac's entry makes the point perfectly. My only problem here is that the door doesn't line up with the bottom of the wall - but otherwise, this is a really funny image. And she does have splendid legs for a woman of her age.

Wonderful! A stretch mini! Pierre has done a great job here, with some great detail - like the way she's got her feet up on the seat in front. So is that your car? Or is it the one in the avatar? Or do you, perhaps, design cars for a living? A truly fantastic second entry! And it gets even better - but I think Marty's amendment tops the lot!

Teaching your granny to suck eggs is one thing - teaching her to play the whistle is something else entirely. The way Whaler has bent her arms up is really good, and the slight puckering of the lips does make it look as if she's blowing that whistle. Not entirely sure about the hands in the second entry, though. Is she wearing mittens?

How we do mistreat the elderly! Eggbox is trying his best to brighten things up for her, but I'm not sure she's that impressed. A good expression, and an especially well constructed pointing finger. But why is she staring at the ceiling? Surely, too, we're not going to see what happens frame by frame?

Sometimes, it's the simple jobs that work well. Lexus has given us a Mr Bean homage that works well - largely due to the added texture on the new face. And I do like the devilment in the second entry, along with the pointed chin and nose. Nice!

Whistler meets Norman Rockwell? Why not? Glen's expert montage has so much in it: the detail level is extraordinary. A few you may not have noticed: Ted and Marty; the Whistler sketch on the easel; the cat on the skewed picture... wonderful!

I like the blank wall effect in BobbyJo's entry, but I'm a little confused about that extra headgear on her shoulder. Is there a ghost present? Ah, I see. Gone in the second entry. A better expression!

Giving the old girl a TV has certainly brightened her up, as yuvalbra showed us. When you make someone smile, though, remember it's not just the mouth: those lines coming down from the nose need to bend around the edge of the lips as well!

Manipulating mouths is a tricky subject, as we've seen this week - but Stefan's version takes the idea a step further. Perfect puckering! What a great expression, and a really good joke! Of course, you always need to make sure there's a good dentist on hand.

I would like to add my voice to the appeal to maiden to return to the forum. As a founding member she has contributed many excellent montages over the years and it would be a tremendous loss to us all if she left especially under these circumstances. I am sure that no one had any intention of upsetting her.

Maiden, please reconsider your decision, you will be welcomed back with open arms.

Thanks for the comments Steve. The Light Shadow???...... hmmm... was meant to from a window opposite.... I was gonna cast it over the guy... but then.. to be honest .... it was just experimentation on my part.... using a new way of casting light... doesn't really work in this pic.... although in a strange way I think it added a bit of depth to the pic.... so overall... I really just used this weeks pic to try out a few new techniques for myself ...that said.. it was a fun challenge this week.. and some really funny entries from everyone

I also would like to see Maiden return. Her work is stunning and how are we to learn if there are not those who participate whose work is better than ours? She showed and shared her knowledge on how to create a technique I knew nothing about. I thought her image was fantastic and very well done. For those who don't like looking at gifs all you had to do is scroll on to the next entry.

Nothing kills a forum faster than bashing other people and it really upsets the wonderful mood that I found here when I first joined. This has been two weeks in a row now where people have been harshly criticized. I hope it stops here and Maiden returns.

steve,
she isn't moving because dino is their pet dinosaur that james hasn't fed yet!
of course...duh! lol!

just my slightly out of wack humor.

as for the maiden/gif incident:
maiden if you read this please come back and associate with those of us that would really like to still hear from you.
most times the little wars that get started on forums are about silly things...this is definately one of those.
so some peps have an animated gif...so what.

first and foremost, this is "steve's" forum...not yours and not mine. i come here to exercise my ps skills and interact w/ peps i don't know...that's fun. i hope all will come to their senses and recreate a happy fun place to come visit again.

maiden/gif incident

Becky, lots of people have shown their support for your return so why not do them and yourself a favour and return ? (this time try the attitude of having a thicker skin and realise that generalised comments are NOT soley about you or you abilities)

we all have permission to have a voice, let's not stifle or silence those voices by personalising things, if it seems personal then use PM to sort it out - it's all only a bit of fun for goodness sake
