Contest 113: Camera Obscura
A few years ago I built a camera obscura in the garden of my mother's house. There's a mirror held at a 45 degree angle in the glazed portion at the top, suspended from a bicycle wheel. The view reflects down through a lens set in the floor, onto a white platform in the room beneath. The room is blacked out, so that in complete darkness an image of the scene outside forms on the platform. Pulling ropes turns the bicycle wheel, so it's possible to take in a view of the entire surroundings. I've not been swamped with requests for custom builds, but it strikes me that we could find another location in which to place such a structure. Any ideas? Since this is a tricky cutout, I've done the job for you in the high res version - it's cut out against blue, which should be easy to select. |

I think the real creativity goes to my mother, who agreed to allow me to build this thing on the basis of a sketch on the back of an envelope! |

I Really should start adding shaddows. Unfortunately, they take me too long to get just right, and my lunch break isn't very long. |

No image last week and a quick one now. We'll see what happens next week. I have reversed the use of this construction and turned it into a lighthouse. _________________ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

j.harvatt we have had the same idea but you were quicker on the draw! I was going to work on this some more but I think I'll submit it as it is now and try to think of another idea. By the way, I like the humour of the 'not quite right' dalek! |

You know that the next launch of Space Shuttle is to put this in orbit to replace the Hubble telescop? _________________ |

Hey Wayne! Great minds think alike ! I like the smudgy dirt effect on yours. Obviously the theme of Renaissance man is playing on our subconscious. I wanted to make mine a tribute to SB Johnson (thinking of Lord Snapcases cruet set) but didn't know how many Pratchett fans were on board. Lovely atmospheric picture Whaler. And its Josephine btw _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

j.h, Pierre, Ben, Tom, Wayne, Whaler, Tank and James Thoroughly entertaining and well thought up. A hard act to follow but I will hopefully be able to have a go this week. Eggbox, I ordered that book and CD with model poses and it arrived today. Many thanks for that information. Sophie |

Hi Josephine, I had Da Vinci's inventions more in mind when I did mine. Amazing they turned out so similar! |

By the name, I assume that the purpose of this device is to enable the user to take clandestine photos? If so, then this ought to get some interesting shots. |
