Contest 150: London 2012
As Michael Sinclair pointed out to me, there's been a lot of consternation over the new logo for the 2012 Olympics in London. i have to admit that when I first saw it, I was rather puzzled and even horrified: but having seen it animated, it does make a lot more sense when it's moving, and when textures are added.

So here's your challenge this week: either produce a fabulous animation of this logo, or dump it and design your own from scratch. This is more of a design challenge than one directly connected with Photoshop techniques, but I think it's an interesting one.

don't you have it vectorized? may be useful for making a flash animation that could be exported as gif, or uploaded to another site to show it.

I must have been hibernating for the last few days as I haven't seen the animation and it has now been removed, any clues anyone?

Thanks for that Wayne. It was one of the naffest things I've seen for a long time!
Very appropriate Ben, and that was just the start of it!

I saw part of the animation on the news and thought the same, especially with the £400,000 price tag! I must admit though, that the variously coloured static logos are growing on me (no pun intended!) I still find the animations annoying.

It's the Conservative party logo all over again. "..but I did see you coming so that's £40,000"

Thanks for posting the link Wayne. I kinda like the idea, but not the execution, and it's too long. I have some ideas about how I would have done it, but with only a week and without a 6-figure budget you won't be getting the full bells-and-whistles of that idea. I'll see what I can come up with...

Helen, the good news is the budget for this challenge was raised to £2.50p or $5 whichever is the greater, and it does come with one bell and a whis! The timescale has been extended to 154 hours. So that's OK then. The pressure is off!

UPDATED

CS3 is tripping me up when it comes to using the Styles formatting when I "Merge Visible", so here are the clock hands with the drop shadows as I originally made them.

Any future errors of this sort will be blamed onto CS3!

Me and my mate Big Ben only want £20,000

My first shot at a GIF file. Hope it works here. It worked in Image Ready.

Nice one Neil, work in Photobucket. Just hope they don't ban it as it might bring on epilepsy attacks.
