Contest 165: Punch and Judy
On my visit to the seaside a few weeks ago, I saw this Punch and Judy booth set up, ready for a show. It was a tricky thing to photograph, into the sun: can you improve the contrast? And what sort of show might be performed on this tiny stage? High res is here. |

Re: Contest 165: Punch and Judy
This is a really good challenge, Steve. When doing restoration work, it is essential to be able to do this type of adjustment, and color correction. Since it is hard to know exactly what the original colors are you have to determine what makes since, and what adjustment works best for the photo. Here is my adjustment made with a curves adjustment layer. I am also including the actual curves used in the adjustment. If desired, the areas that are blown out could be further adjusted by selecting those areas, making a mask and applying the adjustment only to the area needing additional adjustment. This a also fairly common as the lighting can often be perfect for one area, but completely wrong for the rest of the photo. |

tooquilos, This is lively and entertaining. I love the way Don Juan is disposed of, and the way the letter is replaced, very neat. |

Anna, Your animation of "Gone Juan" is terrific. I like how the ballerina makes full use of the stage and her surroundings. You took puppetry to the next level. Abby-Helen |
