Contest 179: Panto season
The pantomime is a big tradition at this time of year in the UK and, I think, in Canada, Australia and New Zealand as well - or so Wikipedia tells me. I was greatly intrigued by power and simplicity of Chris Berry's Jekyll & Hyde poster a few weeks ago, and thought we should try a similar approach this week. So, your task is: design a poster for a theatrical production of Cinderella. Cram in ugly sisters, Prince Charming and a fairy godmother if you wish; but I think a lot could be done with a glass slipper and some effective typography. Sorry to make this a week with no starting image. Bout of flu has kept me in bed for longer than I expected. |

Sorry to hear you've had flu, Steve. Apparently there's a lot of it about this winter. I hope you're feeling better now. |

The 'flu is where I'm at just now, day 4, and I sympathise with all those suffering. However I'm glad not to have been out and in line for this really nasty virus. Ted |

I don't think you can get any better than this, Steve! This is awesome! Nice work! (Think I'll sit this one out, don't think I can compete with yours!) _________________ "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. Re: Contest 179: Panto season
Thanks Neil but there really isn't anything to compete with. I have put together some magazine ads for my other business but not having formal design training, I don't feel like they were very professional looking. This week just really inspired me to try to improve. BTW, I've seen some pretty impressive work come in from your direction so let's go! I could use some more ideas and inspiration. |

Re: Contest 179: Panto season
Hi Steve When I design an ad for a client, I look at other ads in the same area of business and do the opposite. If they have intricate layouts, I use simple ones, if they have one phot, I use three, if they have a background montage, I don't. And simple type can be very effective. I find the best thing is to try something totally inappropriate - it's surprising what emerges. Put something somewhere you'd never dream of putting it, or use type in a way you haven't done before. Also think about colour use, it's surprising how that can improve a design. Of course, a good headline helps set the tone. I sometimes look at advertising agency websites, especially the business to business ones for inspiration. They have millions of ideas! Hope this helps Chris |

Thanks Chris, I like your thought process. I think I'm too concerned with making my ads look like the norm. Thanks Tooquilos, right back at you! |

I'm away for two weeks from Tuesday, so I'll catch up this this challenge when I get back. Great idea for a Challenge - but I would say that wouldn't I... Love the Bolly one, Tooquilos. |

Thanks, Gordon for the vote of confidence! (no pressure right? ) You have all set the bar really high so far! Good work! So here goes nothing! Mine is more of a movie poster. I'm not really familiar with pantomime! Sorry. Neil. Click on the image for a full view without scrolling! _________________ "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed.
