Contest 190: Dextre helps out
I'm indebted to Deborah Morley for having spotted this week's image. Codenamed Dextre, it's a Canadian "Special Purpose Dextrous Manipulator" that's been sent up to help out in the International Space Station.

Sounds like just the sort of thing we could all do with at home. Any ideas for a more domesticated version? Feel free to disassemble this prototype for spare parts, of course.

High res version is here.

Why do space agencies insist on printing the name of the country on the side of all their equipment? It's not like anyone apart from the astronauts will see it, and I would hope that they know where it came from!

Perhaps it is like the labels that your Mum used to sew into your school clothes, incase they ever got lost?

Quite difficult this week but enjoyed doing it. My pride and joy needed a bit of a clean and Dex came to the party.....

spot on, Anna and Josephine! I remember reading that it was invented by a woman. I came across an old photo from the 70s where the Marvelo Crochinette is used as a disentangling aide.

Thanks, Josephine, but. . .
I was hoping to use Photoshop to edify, enlighten, elevate the human condition. Oh well. Maybe next week.

Dextre helps an astronaut
The challenge for me, was to make the edges less jagged on a dark background, and then to make the whole thing look like it was one photo in space.

I'm not sure how the edges will look once uploaded, but in the original, they looked as anti aliased as possible, through meticulous manipulation.

Hi to all, this is my first time here, hope I do everything right.
This is my version of a funny dextre, not quite domesticated yet, but loves to party!

I feel more than a bit outclassed but oh well...
Canada is really good at arms but had to borrow some thing for young Dex to stand on from Mom and Dad.
