Contest 196: The little mermaid
Here's a photo Gordon (GKB) sent me back in February, which he took during a walk around Copenhagen: he thought it would make a good Friday Challenge. Well, I think so too, but probably not in the way Gordon had in mind. I'm not going to ask you to make her look real - the undoubted retouching skills many of you have would quickly make this forum X-rated if I asked for that. Instead, I'd like you to place her in another environment: a bath, say, or a sauna. Whatever you think appropriate. But here's the catch: the environment in which she finds herself must be made of the same bronze that she is, as if they were both cast from a single piece. Not an easy one this week. So to help you, I've posted a larger version of the texture of the body that you might be able to use to build your surroundings here. Full image is here. |

Nice job, Nick! The reflection really makes this one work. I love it. _________________ "If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is often a step forward".... Thomas Edison |

Re: Contest 196: The little mermaid
What's the difference between patina'd bronze and moldy leather? The most dangerous part of the process is when I get something "pretty close" to what I want. That's when I have a tendency to get lost and end up staring at one of my 10,000 failures with no way to get back to "pretty close." If you want to experiment, open a new document. Pass it on. I suspect that the answer to my first question involves crispness of highlights. B'e Well. _________________ Change the world! Use a layer mask. |

I always wondered what Ulysses saw when the Sirens sang to him, and he begged and plead to his men to be let go.... |

I hope to try again - the mermaid is just darn tired of looking at water all the time. |

Couldn't take the 'Little Mermaid' out of Denmark, but I thought she needed some friends. Larger version here: http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z206/friis-kiwi/danishdancers.jpg |

That's lovely Michael. James, your image has changed? Do we get the pleasure of another animation too? Nick |
