Contest 197: Lighting up time
A slightly more technical challenge this week. Here's a photograph of a rather fine ornate iron street lamp: I'd like you to switch it on. Or, if you prefer, refit it for the gas mantle it would have had originally.

It's a slightly trickier job than it might look. What sort of shadows would be cast here? How would the glass shade glow with a light inside it?

Of course, many of you aren't content with simple technical stuff, and want to get your creativity in here as well. That's what the window is for.

High res is here.

Re: Contest 197: Lighting up time
Thanks for the comments Vern. It's always great to receive positive feedback. I find that following experimentation, I become totally confused and cannot see the wood for the trees. It is always better to leave the image and come back to it. If it still looks ok, then it probably is, but sadly I have no time during the week, so it's a case of produce it, post it and prey!

There is some wonderful work and ideas here this week, hands, ropes, streets and keys, but I tend to leave the comments to the boss, otherwise he'd have nothing to do on Friday mornings. However, I would congratulate you on the atmosphere in yours, very Transylvanian!

Nick

Nice one Micheal, if you'r short of a new bulb, I have a couple of spares.

Ben, I do hope the man can catch. That key could give him a soar head.

Re: Contest 197: Lighting up time
Nice idea, but I think the lighting is wrong. As someone who has been thinking about replacing his porch lamp, I would not get this one because it's not open at the bottom and thus would not provide down lighting (which I'm looking for), only side lighting.

A couple kissing in the shadows might actually be more dramatic.
