Contest 200
I've been thinking for some time about how to mark our 200th Friday Challenge. Twice in the past - for the 50th and the 100th Challenge - I've given prizes as an added incentive. Which turned out to be a disincentive, as it happens: the 50th Challenge drew only three entries, as many regulars found the contest too daunting. Providing a prize changes the nature of the Challenge, making it competitive rather than collaborative, so I've decided not to repeat it. Plenty of good suggestions from forum members: the best came from Whaler, who suggested self portraits. Mick Malkemus suggested illustrating your favourite quotations, and placing your heads on statues. So let's leave it a little open this week. I'd like self portraits, done in any monumental or illustrative style you like: make yourselves as recognizable or as hidden as you like. Feel free to add a pithy quote if you want to. But for those of you who really, really don't want your faces to appear online - well, you'll just have to be especially imaginative about how you make your appearance! Custom title amnesty It's been concerning me for some time that those of you who have custom titles have been assigned them, by me, in moments of flippancy following specific illustrations of particular worth. So here's the 200th Challenge amnesty. If any of you don't like your titles and would like them changed, please send me a Private Message (you can do this through the Personal page) telling me what you'd prefer. |

Congratulations Steve on founding and administering a forum which has reached its 200th Friday challenge. You have nurtured and encouraged many talented people over the past 199 weeks and I wish you well over the next two hundred. I'm still around and lurking every week and, when I'm able to, I will return to enjoy the weekly creative opportunity. Perhaps, with your love of alliteration, you should be an Avid administrator. I would also add my congratulations Steve on reaching 200 challenges. The whole forum and your book are an inspiration and have helped me progress far more than I would have thought I could. Thank you for all of the effort that you put into the forum, your help and support and truly welcomed friendly criticism (in the proper sense of the word) of my work. Thanks also to David Asch your very able No 2. Thanks also to all of the other forum members, who make this such a nice place to be. Vern |

Re: Contest 200
I will be the first to post a portrait of myself. If I was doing a self portrait, and if I can actually draw portraits, it would look something like this. It's a shame that I accidentally put a big wrinkle in the paper. |

Thanks to you, Steve, I've started making a (modest) living as a retoucher - something I would never have thought to do if I hadn't stumbled across your book on my art director's shelf. I've said this before (and I'll say it again!) I can't express enough thanks for your inspiration through the book and the forum. And a great idea for the 200th Challenge. Chris |

Congrats Chris
I look forward myself to making some of my income using PS. I don't think I'm quite ready yet, but certainly on the road to start marketing my services sooner than later. Congrats on your new success. Best wishes, Mick |

200 Rejection Slips! This really is a self portrait as I took the photograph of me painting. The paintings are of course all done in Photoshop. Larger image here: http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z206/friis-kiwi/200-redjections.jpg |

What Harrison Ford wishes he saw when he looks in the mirror! Excuse the bodged logo. This one was great fun, Steve. |

Chris, I didn't see your entry before I made this, so I did not copy your idea! We both clearly have an alter ego here. LOL Steve, hope to be here for 250 and beyond, and my goal is to make some money using these skills before then. |

Mick, Superb montage - colour and tonal matching are excellent, not to mention the lighting on your face. |

Congratulations Steve on a wonderful website! 200 Friday challenges, it beats 'Friday Curry Nite' anytime. College deadlines looming so as you can see busy at work whilst the world is a blur behind me. Also I have a new job using my software skills, which is great! Claire |
