Challenge 286: Discworld
I was listening to a recording of part of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novel series, and was intrigued by his description of the world he has invented, summarised by Wikipedia as "a slightly convex disc (complete with edge-of-the-world drop-off and consequent waterfall) resting on the backs of four huge elephants which are in turn standing on the back of an enormous turtle".

I've made the elephant and turtle construction for you. Can you build the flat earth to go on top?

High res is here.

Je ne sais absolument pas de quoi tu parles, Maitre Jedi.....
Mais j'ai compris les grandes lignes, je vais me débrouiller!

Tu peux le lire içi:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld

"Le Disque-monde est un monde plat et circulaire, complété par l’immense cataracte qui s’écoule de ses bords. Il est soutenu par quatre éléphants (Bérilia, Tubul, Ti-Phon l’Immense et Jérakine), eux-mêmes juchés sur la carapace de la Grande A’Tuin, une gigantesque tortue naviguant lentement dans le cosmos."

Pour moi, tu dois construire le monde sur les éléphants!

Co-incidentally I dreamed I was in Discworld last week - I even got to meet the Patrician (who sounds just like Jeremy Irons btw) - too much cheese at bedtime evidently.

Re: Challenge 286: Discworld
Here you see the magnificent night time display of the aurora corealis as the magical field earths itself on the spire of the Cori Celesti, home of the Gods (otherwise known as "Dunmanifestin")

The great turtle, A'tuin has just cocked its leg to allow the orbiting sun to pass and Death keeps a kindly watch on all.

Sadly even Photoshop could not replicate octarine - the colour of magic - in the rimbow

Nice start Josephine.

Now I wish I had read the Discworld books and then would I might have some idea of what to do for this week's Challenge. I suspect I might have to sit this one out again.

Loved some of his books. He was delivering the Richard Dimbleby lecture on Monday of this week, part of which I watched.

Hope I get the chance to have a go at this one.

Hi Josephine, Thanks, however......... being a stupid dutchman, I just did not know what Steve is talking about. We don't know these books from Discworld so my PSDFC (photoshop Friday Challenge) is just a humble attempt to do what the master asks us to do!!

PS being a dutchman, eating cheese is not so bad!!

I read some of the books many years ago. What stayed with me is Death speaks in italics.
