Challenge 1005: Shut that door
Health and safety alert! This airport truck is being driven with an open door! And no driver! Oh, and you might turn that front wheel while you're at it. I know exactly what Michael Sinclair is going to do with this one. High res is here. |

She's parked, so I decided not to close the door on this quickie... |

Re: Challenge 1005: Shut that door
Well this very ordinary looking image was a lot harder than I expected! If you try to approach the closing of the door with an eye to detail it really is surprisingly challenging. Not sure why, but I think, oddly, that half closing, as I did, is somehow even harder. Wisdom after the event tells me that it would have been a lot easier if I had lifted the truck clean out of it's surroundings and given it a new background. A lot of the time consuming fiddly effort of restoring, matching and inventing previously hidden background would have been avoided. The English Hotchippers of my generation will recognise it, but I don't know if Steve had this in mind when he coined the name for this challenge, but "Shut That Door" was the catchphrase of a very camp English comedian called Larry Grayson. He worked for years on the drag and club circuits before becoming, unexpectedly, a huge success at fifty five with his own TV show of the same name that ran from 1972 - 1978 with massive viewer ratings. Although he never officially "came out" (in those days it would have had him taken off air and killed the show) he helped pave the way for all sorts openly gay shows and TV personalities to follow in the years to come. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

David, you have done it again, yes Larry Grayson was the first thing that sprung to mind for me also, so I guess it’s back to the drawing board. I did however come across this song of his that I think would make a super background track for Anna’s animation this week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20hgQa-mkVQ Now that would be a challenge! |

Funnily I thought it would Josephine who I pipped to the post here. She's a fount of knowledge on the old TV shows. Anyway I'm sure there's plenty more you can do with him.

Loyd - I'm ever so slightly concerned about the impending metallic grating sounds from your '747 No undercarriage plus high rate of descent just above the ground. Nothing seen in today's newspaper about that _________________ Why is it that all the contestants in the ‘Miss Universe’ contest are all from Earth? |

Ex Red Arrows pilot. Undercarriage goes down while flying horizontally at just above undercarriage height from the ground. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Pick one, or two: 1. Short runway 2. Aborted at last second. 3. Pilot/copilot failed to go over checklist. 4. I was too lazy to find another plane. 5. It didn’t dawn on me. 6. Whole lotta’ noise and sparks. I fully expected to see an HTCIP aircraft from one of you ‘flyboys’ and I wasn’t disappointed. |

Sorry David but just couldn’t loose the Larry Grayson image in my mind. Not everyone will get the cultural reference but extra points if you do. |

Re: Challenge 1005: Shut that door
Great work Loyd! I have used the original door and contorted and warped it in the Toyota vehicle. Both wheels rotate Steve and David you're both wrong: there is black ice on the runway, and it's very realistically done to convey sliding. UPDATED to reflect passing plane shadow UPDATED AGAIN to reflect ALL plane shadow frame sequences |
