Challenge 1007: Ride that snail
There was a lot going on at last week's wood fair, other than just carving and displays of wooden furniture and carving tools. For instance, here's a woman riding a giant snail. No, I have no idea what this has to do with wood. But it is entertaining. It would be even more entertaining out on the road. High res is here. |

Yes. The race is lovely. It's like the other old 'Dad' snail joke. Snail get's mugged by a tortoise. When asked by police to give details of his attacker he says "It's hard to say really .... it all happened so quickly!" _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1007: Ride that snail
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the most exhilarating, edge-of-your-seat event of the century: the Great Slowpoke Sprint! Today, we have a star-studded lineup featuring the very best in slow-motion athletes: Sid the Sloth, Turbo the Tortoise, and Speedy the Snail. Grab your popcorn and settle in, because this race is guaranteed to be a nail-biter... if you have a few days to spare! And they're off! Well, kind of. Sid the Sloth is leisurely scratching his head, seemingly contemplating the meaning of life before even considering moving. Turbo the Tortoise, the epitome of patience, is already making significant progress... by tortoise standards, of course. Speedy the Snail is setting a blistering pace at approximately 0.03 miles per hour, leaving a shiny trail in his wake. Minute 5: Sid the Sloth has finally decided to make his move! He’s... still scratching his head. But wait, there’s action! He’s lifted one arm and appears to be ready to take a step any minute now. Minute 15: Turbo the Tortoise is steadily making his way forward. He’s now a whopping six inches from the starting line. Spectators are on their feet, but that’s mainly because they’re stretching from standing still for so long. Minute 30: Speedy the Snail is now a full inch ahead of Turbo! This is unprecedented! The crowd goes wild! Well, they would if they were awake. Sid the Sloth is showing signs of progress – his second arm is moving now. We might see a full step by the end of the hour! Hour 1: Ladies and gentlemen, Turbo the Tortoise has found a delicious leaf and has decided to take a snack break. Strategy or distraction? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, Speedy the Snail has encountered a pebble. This could be a major obstacle! Sid the Sloth has completed his first step and is now looking very pleased with himself. Hour 2: Turbo the Tortoise is back on the move! The leaf is history, and Turbo is slowly gaining on Speedy. The pebble has proven too much for Speedy, who is now attempting to go around it. Sid the Sloth is... sleeping. Classic Sid move there. Hour 3: Speedy the Snail has overcome the pebble! What determination! Turbo the Tortoise is closing in, inch by painstaking inch. Sid the Sloth is still napping, clearly saving his energy for a last-minute burst of speed. Hour 4: We’ve got a nail-biting finish ahead! Speedy the Snail is just centimeters from the finish line. Turbo the Tortoise is gaining ground. Sid the Sloth is waking up and appears confused about where he is. Classic. Hour 5: The crowd roars (softly, as they don't want to disturb Sid). Speedy the Snail is milliseconds from the finish line. Turbo the Tortoise makes one final push, but it’s too late! Speedy crosses the finish line with a time of just under five hours! And there you have it! Speedy the Snail is our champion, proving that slow and steady does indeed win the race. Turbo the Tortoise finishes a respectable second. Sid the Sloth, well, he's still figuring out where he is, but he's a winner in our hearts for his impeccable chill vibes. Thank you for joining us for the Great Slowpoke Sprint! Tune in next time for the thrilling rematch – maybe next year? Commentary courtesy of Chat GBT. (not just good for Photos) |
