Challenge 1009: Fire away
The RAF Air Defence Radar Museum in Norfolk is very much more interesting than it sounds – you even get to sit in the cockpit of Jaguar and Tornado fighter planes (Gordon, take note).

Just outside is this missile launcher. I looked all round it but couldn't find the big red button to fire the missiles. Can you help?

High res is here.

Re: Challenge 1009: Fire away
FYI this is a Rapier Air Defence missile battery. The round ball is a targeting radar. The main area surveillance radar is mounted on a separate vehicle to prevent the entire system being targeted by counter-battery fire. A very effective system in its day but, as the Ukraine war has shown, this kind of system has become rather vulnerable to drone attack using small, inexpensive, drones armed with small grenade charges.

Not sure if I will have time for this one but y’all have fun.

From the "Boy's Own Book of Cutaways"

Shades of the kind of stuff I loved as a boy!

All you aviation and military experts please refrain from technical observations on my ignorance of such matters.

The main below ground photos are taken from the same museum. I had to jump through some appalling perspective distortion and alteration hoops to try and tie this together looking down, as the original photos are all taken at eye level. I've sort of pulled it off but it doesn't withstand close analysis.

Needs to be viewed away from bright light.

I forgot to confess that, against all my principles, I used generative fill for the considerable background extensions. It would be easy enough to do without were it not for the chain link fence ...... but that was just too much hard work.

Now all you need is Vera Lynn "We'll Meet Again" sound track.

Much funnier Ben.

I think madame needs some make up to hide her 'surgery' in the left hand image.

That's about it Loyd!!

You prompted me to watch the movie again. I'd forgotten just how wonderfully good it is!

Yes. I'd guessed that was probably it.

Trouble with Photoshopping is that you get so focused on certain aspects that something else 'unmissable' will get missed. I fall prey to this more times than I can count.
