Challenge 1032: Down the chute
I was walking to the underground station last night when I passed this house about to be renovated. Something about that chute apparently about to disgorge straight onto passing pedestrians really unnerved me. But what might come down a tube such as this? And what sort of havoc might it cause? High res is here. ![]() |

Re: Challenge 1032: Down the chute
The moment I saw this challenge, this popped inescapably straight into my head! For the non Brits "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em" was an early nineteen seventies comedy series about the clumsy accident prone Frank Spencer and his long suffering wife. In his hands even the simplest of things turned into disaster. If these tubes had existed back then, he would undoubtedly have ended up inside one. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1032: Down the chute
PLASTIC MAN! I wonder how many of you are old enough to remember this fellow. Born in 1941 he was still around in my adolescence in the 1950's, but I don't think much longer. He could form himself into literally any shape, which he would exploit to overcome the bad guys. No matter what shape he adopted it always had the same red colour with the same distinctive black and yellow stripe across the middle. He was, perhaps, the first humorous tongue in cheek superhero. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1032: Down the chute
This was a perfect example of not thinking an idea through. I added Wallaces' legs, Grommit and the trousers first. That should have been that! But, being a rather literal minded soul sometimes, I felt that it didn't work because the tube wasn't their invention and didn't really come out of the house itself but from somewhere above. Once I accepted the idea of making it come through the wall I was left with the inevitable job of removing all the scaffold and restoring the house. Since this is a challenge I decided to try and do it 100% with hand tools and no resorts to generative fill. Which I have. Terribly hard work! It's fine in the small image but, if you enlarge, the result is less than ideal and falls into the category "If you know, you can see it. If you didn't, you hopefully might not spot it.". Out of curiosity, once I had finished I had a go using AI. For the most part it failed miserably as there simply weren't enough clues it could read. I had to do tiny portions at a time and even then it often got lost and couldn't really cope. It's staggeringly good and fast at the obvious but can't deal with things that need deductive interpretation from information in other areas of the image than the immediate area that is being restored. (Like creating the dormer roof for the mid bay just behind the chimney on the basis of the distant ones.). ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1032: Down the chute
You did a lot of work to create that one David, nicely done! The small details involved for re-creating without the scaffolding would have made driven me crazy. |
