Challenge 1062: Hair today
I spotted this old hair salon chair at a market recently. I don't know if these are still in use, but can you find a purpose for this item of memorabilia? High res is here. ![]() |

I love all the entries so far. Who would have thought that a simple old-fashioned hairdresser’s chair and dryer could generate so much fun? I have a cunning plan but not sure that I will be able to complete it in time. Keep the ideas coming. _________________ ![]() |

Thank you Loyd. It seemed to just cry out for it. It was one occasion I wished I had Dennis' 3D abilities to model her. All the photographs of the seated Maria are full face. To create a profile I had to assemble her literally limb by limb from many multiple. sources. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1062: Hair today
This entry is not very interesting Photoshop ........ come to that it's not even terribly good Photoshop. It's a little bit of British nostalgia. If you are old enough to actually remember these hair dryers then you are old enough to remember these two iconic hairdos. For non Brits they are Hilda Ogden (Jean Alexander) and Bette Lynch (Julie Goodyear), characters from "Coronation Street" the world's longest running soap, currently in it's 65th year of production. Starting in 1960, in black and white, the show was set in the fictional town of Weatherfield close to Manchester. It upgraded to colour in 1969 (when most of our TV's still had wooden cabinets). The street was, in fact, a set built on the backlot of Granada Television Studios. Initially it portrayed the life of northern working class Britons although it has adapted over the years to the changes in British society. Back in the days of these two it was still pretty down market. Hilda, with a 'fag' dangling from one corner of her mouth, virtually lived in curlers and a flowered 1950's style 'pinnie' and Bette, a barmaid, sported a classic sixties blonde beehive hairdo. She was referred to by the tabloids of the time as "the working man's pin up". Even for those, like me, who didn't watch or follow "Corrie", as it was known, it was still a part of daily urban folklore and its influence was everywhere. Hopefully it will trigger some memories for some of you ......... ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

It was worth your efforts David. I've never heard of Coronation Street. Never made it to Oklahoma USA. |

Adapted from a movie based on a true story. ![]() If I were going to drive a riding lawnmower more than 200 miles at 5mph, I would also want a more comfortable seat. Movie information: The Straight Story |

Re: Challenge 1062: Hair today
Coronation Street was (and I presume still is) so peculiarly and uniquely a microcosm of just one small segment of British society that I suspect a Chinese soap might be more accessible to an Oklahoman. ![]() I love the way your very slow moving animation combined with parallax has allowed you leave the the distant buildings completely static. Unless you are looking for it you absolutely don't sense it and the broken nature of the corn tops really helps absorb the transition The ditch beyond the road edge creates a rupture that allows the different speeds of foreground and mid ground to work perfectly too. I had never heard of this film ...... and from such an iconic director. ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1062: Hair today
Thank you, David and Michael, was a very satisfying gif to make… the overall pace is much akin to the film itself. |
