Challenge 1096: High dive
This week's Challenge comes courtesy of Ant Snell. As he explains: "While traveling south in the camper last year, we stayed overnight in a park to find, the next morning, this diving board in a lake. Reading the information board, apparently it is grade 2 listed and had recently been refurbished, however for Health and Safety reasons it could not be used as a diving board so had been taken over by pigeons and seagulls who, should we say, had left their mark. I thought the forum could show it being used for its original intention or indeed its new use as a high rise duck house." High res is here. |

You've got your 'ducks on a roll' Dennis, fun stuff. If I could post an animation, the minions would be out in full force... |

Re: Challenge 1096: High dive
Dennis your 'duck house' really made me smile. Skegness Butlins is spot on Ant ...... but how do you explain that to non Brits? Given the present re-emergence of Fascism this image might be considered political ........ but it's not intended thay way ..... it's stylistic. The moment I saw the Art Deco board, Leni Riefenstahl's photographs of the 1936 Berlin Olympics sprang instantly to mind. The participants and symbolic foreground nude are all classic Riefenstahl photographs. Before you point out the perspective anomalies Steve, I am well aware of them! I had to work with and try to match a very limited number of source photos of the Berlin Pool. It took a lot of work even to get to here. (It would be interesting to see if the new Rotate and Perspective tool could get a really perfect fit of the board. Sadly my trial credits were gone before I thought of that, even though it feels like cheating somehow.) ![]() _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Skegness Butlins ...... but how do you explain that to non Brits? Imagine a cruise ship that crashed into a 1950s carnival and decided to stay there forever. It’s a high-energy seaside vortex where "Redcoats" lead the masses in organized joy. Expect lukewarm tea, toddlers fueled by pure glucose, and the relentless smell of vinegar-soaked chips. It is a gloriously chaotic British rite of passage that feels like a fever dream designed by a hyperactive clown. |

Thank Dennis/ Mostly just reshaping the top platform. On the subject of reshaping I really like what you have done there Ant. The re-purposing on the boat is a wonderful sideways leap in vision Dennis. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 1096: High dive
So I managed a silhouette of the diving platform on the deck of the yacht...but can I match the color of the yacht and still use the photoshop alpha plain convincingly enough, when the light is shinning from the viewers pov? Can a displacement map give the definition that you would need to marry an image plain, into a 3D scene? Photoshop is everyone's friend. ![]() _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Re: Challenge 1096: High dive
It's interesting to note that the slight wake turbulence to show that the yacht is underway, is also a plain that I did in Photoshop. In the silhouette image of the yacht, I had a more aggressive Photoshop displacement map setting applied to the texture map. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |
