Contest 26: Last-minute shopping
Well, it's Christmas Eve, and I'm nearly finished with my Christmas shopping. Still got one or two presents left that need wrapping, though. Feel like giving me a hand? High res is here. That's me finished for the year. I'm turning my computer off at the end of this post, and it won't go back on until January 4th - so you've got two weeks on this one. Happy Christmas, everyone, and have a great time over the holidays. Steve |

Well, I got off work early today, and I just couldn't resist making a few last minute tweaks. I doubt that they're even noticeable, but oh well... |

Well I managed to wrap them up (not much good at that sort of thing) and put them under the bed. Then the mice arrived, punctured the football, drunk the beer and had a bash at the chockies too. Anyone got a mouse trap ? _________________ BJ - Photoshop driver with 'L' plates |

Re: Contest 26: Last-minute shopping
Of course, since I posted the Challenge on Christmas Eve, it meant most of you were doing your last-minute wrapping after the big event. Still, that didn't prevent you coming up with some great solutions. Glen, I suppose I deserved that… cheating taken to its logical conclusion. Although, judging by the size of the box as indicated by the pine cones, you must have deflated the football to get it in there. And I bet you scoffed all the chocolates as well. A gorgeous, detailed entry from maiden with such a wealth of ingredients it's hard to know where to begin. Apart from the great 3D wrapping of the ball and the can, let me draw your attention to: the lager spill, and the stain on the wrapping; the reflection of the ball in the lager foil, and the distortion of the can through the ball; the folding and tearing of the chocolate box wrapping; the missing chocolate eaten out of the box, the tape on the ball… there's just so much in here. Magic! Excellent 3D wrapping by Brian Garrison, matching the sphere and cylindrical shapes well. I like the shading lines that show the stresses on the paper at the tops and bottoms, and the bows round things off nicely. Something about the angle of the ball bothers me, but it's a little hard to pin down. Should we be vieing it more from the top, perhaps? Although I don't know how you'd get around that with a Spherize effect. Atomicfog is off on a planet of his own, as we've come to expect, but his ghostly gifts do have a certain presence. The mood of the final image is good and mysterious in this one. I have a slight problem with the glow on the football, which appears to be coming from behind it rather than inside it. Tricky one to sort out, that. Great work from BobbyJo, with a fine sense of humour nicely executed. Great detail in there, and a masterfully deflated football: I know how difficult that effect is to achieve. Great paper tearing, and the mice are funny. Even if one of them is a hamster. A good last-minute bit of hasty wrapping by Jeff Scranton rounds things off for this week. Excellent texture on the brown paper bag, and the lights on the ball work very well. Kick Me! Ha ha! Great! One thing, though - I don't know when you last used scotch tape, but it's only ragged at the ends where it's torn off the roll, and not at the sides… good texturing on the tape, though. Well, at least that's Christmas over for another year. |
