Contest 30: What's in store?
I use shop fronts a lot in my work, and this is one of my favourites. I've turned it into a travel agent, an estate agent, a photo processor, a betting shop, and many more.

Well, the lease is up, so it's up to you to find a new purpose for this popular high street location. Sell anything you want, but remember that whatever is on offer has to be behind glass. Unless you choose to take the glass away, of course...

High res is here.

Excellent Maiden!!!

I didn't realise we could use the bank I just thought it was the empty one next door. The trouble I had messing about with perspective etc !!!!

I was going to do 'The Body Shop' but I couldn't find any pictures of skeletons and stuff.

This is what happens when a space for rent is rented by a business that has Space for rent.

Ok, I'm not real happy with my windows - everything was fine where I could leave the reflections, but when I had to start deleting what was inside and cloning, well, does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

I'm also not happy with how the sign came out - it should read "Dark matter special! Saturday free with Friday rental. Only $29.95!!" The original text, imported from elsewhere because I couldn't find what I wanted in Photoshop - anyone know any good (free) fonts for Photoshop, was ok, but when I shrunk it down to size it became unreadable. I did try it in Photoshop as well, but the small sized text looked even worse. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any comments, advice, or suggestions.

They have some good mock-product fonts there, you can also type in your own text to see what it looks like, before downloading it, which is great.

Re: Contest 30: What's in store?
Seems this one didn't inspire a lot of you to enter. Perhaps it's just the February blues. Still, there may not have been a big quantity, but the quality was high…

John-BoB got in first with a great animation - that flashing sign makes all the difference. Only thing I'd question there is the perspective on the inside of the pet shop. Look at the side window leading in to the door of the Abbey National: that's the perspective line you should be following. Yours heads off in a different direction entirely! It would have been tricky to correct that shot, though, and would have entailed chopping it up into bits and reassembling it. Worth a try, perhaps.

A truly fabulous entry from maiden this week. The reflections in the glass of the window are just perfect - even the angle of the buildings across the street is exactly right. And what a load of detail in this montage! So many elements from previous contests - the table lamp, the dragon, the fox, the motorbike, even the taxi reflected in the far window. Note, too, not only the expertly-drawn Tools of the Trade board outside (I might have added a strong or chain holding those sides together) but its exact reflection in the window as well. Fantastic work, Becky, you're a star.

BobbyJo has, curiously, taken a section of the shop front and straightened it up for us. A good job of it - did you use Perspective Crop? - but some of those rather peculiar bunny people seem a little mismatched in scale and position. As for the bouncer, I've always found him rather jolly, rather than mean. Can't see how he'd fit through that doorway, though!

A great spacey entry from Julie. I see from googling you that you're a NASA engineer, so I won't question your nebulae! "Space for rent" is a great name for the store, but I agree with you about the choice of typeface. David's tip on free fonts is a great one, and it's worth loading up half a dozen for purposes such as this. As for the sign on the window, beware of making the lettering too small - it's hard to make out, here. Still, I imagine your mind was on other planets.

Thanks to those of you who took part!
