Contest 67: Rain on Martin's Hibiscus
You'll recognise the image - it's one mguyer posted in the Image Doctor forum earlier this week. Well, that seemed like too good a puzzle to pass up, so here it is as this week's Challenge. The task: to add rain or dewdrops to the surface of the flower, making them look as convincing as possible. Remember, you'll need to consider refraction as well as lighting! Choose either Martin's original, or my adjusted version as your starting point. |

For this challenge, I forsaken my favorite Photoshop 5.0 for version 7.0, which better Layer Blending and Layer Effects. |

Re: Contest 67: Rain on Martin's Hibiscus
great jobs especially from Neal. What I am learning from this though is that sometimes if we take a picture that we really like, we should just leave it as is and that change just because we can is not always the best way to go. I hope we can have some technique sharing on this one. Mine came with the help of a Photoshopuser Magazine tutorial and I am not impressed with what I did. |

hi I am new to this site and just starting to learn photoshop, working through the secound edition, I think the effects you produce are great, what would be helpful is a few words on how you got them. thanks steve |

Re: Contest 67: Rain on Martin's Hibiscus
Hi Steve. The raindrop effect I used was to create a new layer use a brush set to white with a fairly hard edge to it and paint in various sized spots to simulate the raindrops. Then add a Bevel & Emboss Layer Effect changing the light direction to suit the picture then switched the Blending Mode of the raindrops layer to Soft Light. I used the Transform Tool to create perspective to the droplets and I also added shadows for the raindrops as well as a few more layers to tweak the effect. Hope that helps. _________________ mad as a badger and twice as furry |

Re: Contest 67: Rain on Martin's Hibiscus
For fun, I went back to my old friend Photoshop 5.0, and dripped glue on the flower, the old-fashion way, with paint and Smudge tools. (Yes, I do have too much time on my hands.) |

Hi Steve, you could always type in 'water droplets (drops) in photoshop' into Google - there's loads of tutorials, some good some not so good but at least you'll see a few techniques to have a go at look forward to seeing your entry this week _________________ most of the lack of sunshine in our lives is caused by us standing in our own shadow |

Ok, couldn't master the droplets, so i basically added some rain, a new background, and a diff colour flower, and a small layer of rain running all on my flower and the leaf Also Steve, you didn't write about my entry last week _________________ Quote From Family Guy: Oh I Would Like Some Cake, Oh I Would Like Some Cake, Oh I Would Like Some Cake, Oh I Would Like Some Cake. |

Re: Contest 67: Rain on Martin's Hibiscus
Martin's flower is so fragile and tears so easily. I did my best to fix it. |

Re: Contest 67: Rain on Martin's Hibiscus
I don't think any of us is creating realistic looking droplets of water. I don't think that water on a flower exhibits as much surface tension. |
