Challenge 836: The cognac cellar
On my trip to France this summer I enjoyed the way this cellar in the cognac museum has been preserved. That lighting, though, is far too modern, as is the display at the far end. And the poster should be pasted directly onto the wall, rather than mounted on board.

Care to give this place some more atmosphere?

High res is here.

Re: Challenge 836: The cognac cellar
This the kind of challenge I take quite literally, exactly as requested.

Really enjoyed doing this.

When the main vat burst, it led to an electrical short and next the sewer gasses backed up into the cellar... the poor rat is in 'dire straights'.

David, your image is very well done, I really like it.

It's the rat that breaks me up ....... every time I look at it.

And thanks, but you know by now this is my kind of challenge.

I can't speak for Loyd, but it's quite clear he is no newcomer.

I discovered Photoshop in the late '90's, when I was already in my mid fifties. So, I have been doing it for nearly twenty five years now. My background is photographing movie and lighting movie sets (I retired two years ago) so a challenge of this particular ilk is a bit like asking a child if they would like some ice cream.

That being said, I love this group and Steve's mentorship because you never stop learning and they are fun, humorous, and supportive, but honest when I get it wrong. That's worth its weight in gold!

Their sometimes quite astonishing creative fantasies and follies just go to show that we don't need to be graphics professionals ...... just able to let go and imagine!

End of homily ...........

Re: Challenge 836: The cognac cellar
A little known piece of less publicised Cognac history is that early in the 20th century poor workmanship (blamed on non French immigrant labour) caused a portion of one of the cellars to collapse completely, trapping the principal winemaker. When it was realised that nothing short of weeks of digging and excavation could rescue him, it was sealed forever. A burial service was held and a stone marks his final resting place to this day.

Needs to be viewed in a semi darkened room.

David, good work. It must have been tricky getting the vintner's head and body to just the right angles.

Thank you Loyd and Josephine. These 'atmospheric' challenges are the ones I really love.

It's usually a question of searching and searching until I find what's needed. I try not to bolt separate bits of people together or 'bend' them too much although of course it's unavoidable sometimes. This man is 'straight out of the box', although his photo was waist up and I had to give him some legs. Sometimes library searching is the most challenging part of an image. I often spend a very long time on this aspect.

Re: Challenge 836: The cognac cellar
Last, last one. Serious working week next week.

2030 In an attempt to strengthen their foothold in Europe and expand on Disney World Paris, the Disney organisation has purchased part of the Cognac region together with its vineyards and distilleries.

Not quite up to he standard of the other two .... but still fun to do.

.... and a little in joke for wine buffs ........

Yes, that's what I do. Oh, the joy of finding the right image at last! But when all else fails I patch body parts together.

Off topic! I used a barrel didn't I?

David, Yes, Niagara was just out of view. Should I loosen my grip?

Michael I'm flattered, but I'm sure the "former site owner" will think to the contrary.
