This is really stupid and a bit scruffy.

When I was a little boy my mama told me that if I dug deep enough I would come out the other side in China.

Seems they've found a loophole.

Definitely time to for a kitchen cocktail while I cook .........

Well done Frank, that is excellent

Love the penguins Josephine. There are quite a few fairy penguins around here, which are tiny in comparison to the Emperor.

David, the "China Dig" is very good.

Loyd, the moose is a very funny touch and your water movement is so realistic. Just beautiful.

I tried tidying up the pavement but it wasn't working for me so left it and worked around it.

Frank I keep coming back to your image. I find it little short of perfect!

I am not talking technique, although that is excellent too. It's the narrative I find so compelling. The pot bellied father, the slightly dejected looking kids, the general disorganised DIY mess and the slight feeling that this is one of those projects that might just not quite come up to fondly imagined standards.

It's clever and it's funny. Thank you.

Beautifully atmospheric as usual ... glad to see no weeping angels there!

Lovely Anna!
Thanks again David, it's like many of my entries, I start out wondering where I am headed , change course a few times as the ideas come and go, and voila - oftentimes a complete reversal.
P.S. I see you've broken your own prediction

Good work by everybody so far: Loyd, David, Frank, Josephine, and the professional filmmaker from down under

I love it Michael! Your ability to create space and vistas is exceptional. Your ability to create shadows, reflections and detail is again exceptional

Michael This is lovely. The expansion of the image to the left is a great touch.

Two really trivial comments. I am not sure if such a careful conversion would have left the rather unattractive raw concrete block wall exposed at the far end of the building and that's a very deep pool!

Re: Challenge 844: Let's go swimming
Thank you, David. I often value "trivial comments" more highly than praise. I did at one point cover the unattractive raw concrete blocks at the far end of the building, but my solution looked less natural than the original so I left it.
Now you mention it I see that the pool really is too deep. In a frenzy of creative passion I overlooked this completely and moved on, never once looking back.
Also, the joins in the slabs around the pool should barely be visible at the far end. Another mistake.

Re: Challenge 844: Let's go swimming
First to renovate the pool this week was lwc, with a clever solution: an entirely different pool and building, but from the same angle and with the same trees. Great water movement, though. Very glad to see the moose.

I enjoyed DavidMac's architect’s drawing, neatly capturing future plans. A great graphic style, combining drawing elements with faded photographs. Very appealing. And I like how the reality is subtly different in the second entry, with its remarkably well-considered reflections. That perspective must have taken some working out. A really funny third entry - the perspective of the man climbing the ladder towards us must have been a tricky one. The woman in the foreground is rather too large though, wouldn’t you say? And too high?

A splendid snow scene from Josephine Harvatt, complete with alpine view and penguins. I’m a little concerned about the ice, though, which seems rather too mirrorlike. Maybe a touch of translucency needed?

Outstanding work from Frank, with a pool in the process of being renovated. I’m amazed by the level of detail here - from rebuilding the fence at the back where the tall grass has been removed, to tucking the kids behind the fence at the front, to the perfect cement texture inside the pool. A really extraordinary image, Frank, but as David has said, it's the story that really wins here. Probably your single best image in the nine years you’ve been on the Forum.

Some classical statuary from tooquilos, with a rebuilt pool and some ghostly reflections. Some amazing forest travel in the animated version, and it’s good to see the statue at the bottom of the pool. I like the bubbles as it rises out.

A thoroughly cleaned pool from michael sinclair, with added railings and palm trees. I like how you’ve kept the original building in the background. Best of all, though, is the level of coke in the bottle as it pours. Perspective alert: the railings are above the horizon at the back, but slope up towards it at the side. Can’t have both!

An immaculate rebuild from Mariner, with a reduced sense of perspective and some very neat grass. I like the building additions, with the door and window interrupting the ivy: great that you’ve kept the original foliage there. Best of all, though, is the reflection of the umbrella, neatly inverted so we can see its underside. Is that a bottomless pool, though? Safety alert!

A beautiful renovation from Vibeke, working well with the extreme perspective. I like the added wall at the back and the new blue doors. A slightly curious distortion of the pool interior to make it fit the shape: it might have been better to stretch it towards us to bring the curved step into the corner.

Terrific work this week. Congratulations all round.
