Re: Challenge 846: Plane restoration
Hate to say this Michael but the junction of wings and body is odd. They should extend back to overlap the cockpit by about two thirds and the yellow leading edge should lie about where the rear edge lies now.

To my inexpert eye the rest looks beautifuly done!

Mariner - agree with David and moreover the engine cowling and landing gear are slightly out of perspective with the body. Otherwise a fine piece of work.

Re: Challenge 846: Plane restoration, corrections
Thanks for your constructive criticism David. Here is, hopefully, an improved version. I couldn't resist making other improvements, beside the ones you suggested.

And here is my starting model, which took ages to find on the net. Sorry it's a bit blurred.

Thank you Frank. I hope my last entry has fixed that a bit. It was a very difficult challenge, and I made the best I could of a minimal amount of information.

Michael, painting, drawing and modelling aircraft is not at all easy as just a slight change of line can quickly detract from realistic depiction but you have done pretty well with this one.

Thank you Gordon, I did my best.

Bearing in mind that I didn't even attempt this one this could, of course, be a case of the blind leading the sighted.

Wow, some lovely images. David, clever move for the plastic wrap.
Gordon, your forest wreck is great.
Anna, outstanding image, love it.
Love your clip Michael. Very appealing.
Lovely rebuild Doug.
Well done Mariner. I appreciate how much work goes into repainting something....hence the late submissions...like mine.

I cannot and will not carry on with this, even though it is still an open canvas. Short of tools because everything is finger tight. It's only the knock up...lol...excuses.

An incorrect shadow going over the seat and short of the intersecting shadows from the opposite side lights. I have 3D'd, re-twisted the cockpit as it was bent out of shape from the heat...tried to re-introduce the correct perspective to it. Painting it took hours. I could still spend hours on it but enough is enough.

Pity the image is so small, the detail is interesting.

Well Dennis you set the bar really high right from the start. Now you have taken it a notch higher. You really have excelled yourself this week. Impeccable entries.

Ha, ha...thanks David. I'm almost tempted to stretch the room and put a bomber there to...

Extraordinarily good Dennis! The site owner is going to be very pleased with you.

Incidentally, by clicking on your image will turn it into a larger image, and you can see all the detail you want.

Thank you all but as you can tell i'm selective of the challenges that I submit to. You guys and Ladies consistently participate in all the challenges whether it grabs you by the booboo or not....and that is admirable....especially that on a down, you still create amazing works of art.

Thank you.

Re: Challenge 846: Plane restoration
Steve, what about a challenge on 6 point perspective. That would be kick.....!

That would test all our brains......best explanation....view point coming, going, left, right, up and down.

Imagine standing in front of a mass...something huge, that fills all perspectives....now that's a challenge.

By the way, I won't participate...lol

Re: Challenge 846: Plane restoration
First to restore the plane this week was dwindt, with a perfectly reskinned fuselage - those decals add a lot of interest. I like the glazed canopy, and the freshly rusted metalwork around it. Eagle-eyed aviation enthusiasts (GKB) might notice that you’ve missed the engine, but you’ll probably get that past the rest of us. (Edit - just read Gordon’s post, he didn’t notice.) And yes, the comic version does have an appeal of its own. The refabricated cockpit in the third entry works really well. Interesting how your rebuilt engine compartment in the fourth entry looks so 3D modelled. But again, fantastic attention to detail. And I was really knocked out by the fifth entry, with the engine being hoisted into place. Fabulous!

A repurposed cockpit from DavidMac, with an ingenious approach to making the plastic covering. Is it that much easier than painting it yourself, though? Hard Light layer, Dodge & Burn, then a generous helping of the Smudge tool. I like the furniture created in the second entry - an entertaining interpretation of the cockpit interior.

I like how GKB has stripped the plane back to the bare aluminium. A few holes to be patched there, Gordon. Oh - I see you’ve done that. A very neat job! And the paintwork does give it a good finish, especially now you’ve added the engine. Might want to take a look at the tailplane. I like the forest location version - that engine in the foreground, covered in moss, really adds something. As does the detached wing.

High drama from DougD, with the plane barely visible under all that flame and debris. But what a great battle scene! A fantastic restoration in the second entry, and that skeletal pilot adds eerily to the drama. Outstanding, Doug. You’ve lost none of your Photoshop skill in your absence from the Forum. Did you have a title before? You need one now.

I like Frank's relocation to the American Restoration workshop, with the subsequent reveal of the finished project. I suspect, though, that it’s a different photograph of the plane altogether. I wonder why Rick gets more saturated in the second entry.

A fine rusted ruin from tooquilos, which not only matches the car perfectly but adds layers of blistered paint. A glorious set of scenes in the animated version, with tremendous detailing: the birds in the first version, the dolly effect on the foreground rocks in the second, the sparks and smoke in the third. Fabulous, Anna.

I enjoyed michael sinclair’s burial of the plane in coral, and that’s a great wiggle movement on the shark and fish. Is the fish supposed to tentatively stick its nose in and out of the frame at the beginning? And good to see your ten-year-old project back for a second outing. Although I’m still wondering how someone can stand up in an inflatable raft.

A valiant attempt at restoration from Mariner, resulting in a complete airworthy plane. Not sure about the way your wing joins the fuselage, though; might this approach look more convincing?

I think there are a few angle issues as well - your engine seems to be pointing in a different direction to the rest of the plane, and at least one of those two rockets needs to be viewed differently. Not sure the second entry fully resolves these issues, although it is a definite improvement. Has Restoration Man met his match?

Good work, everyone.

Thanks, Steve, for your correction and improvement, of the shape of the wing. BTW, I think those pipes are supposed to be exhausts.

You know, Steve, I think I have. I just cannot see the perspective fault three people have mentioned, and that's bad news. I will look at it again in a week's time and perhaps see more clearly.

Thanks Steve. I'll take a look at the technique you suggest. My brush skills leave a certain amount to be desired .............
