Variation on a theme.

Less impressive perhaps - but far more difficult.

And very nice it is too. I think I would take issue with a shadow on a window but this is a lovely clean image with all the Mariner hallmarks.

Re: Challenge 848: The time travel lift
Upon reflection I think it is maybe a reflection. But, if so, it is a little odd that it is the back of his head ..........

But I still find something rather satisfying about this image.

Thanks, David, it's supposed to be a reflection. I didn't think anyone would notice I hadn't put a face on it. I should have known better. Well spotted!

Some fabulous entries this week folks, nice work.
I think Steve hinted he wanted a video from me so I had to chip off a lot of rust and pull more hair as I haven't touched the program for quite awhile:

That's the price you pay for such clean hi-res images. We get to spot stuff!

Re: Challenge 848: The time travel lift
Michael and David great work But wouldn't professor McDonald (professor of dynamic perspective) advocate vertical perspective throughout and not slanted perspectives (top left-hand corner of image)?

Maybe I've missed the point.

Wow, wonderful work everybody. Love your second image Mariner. I added a face reflection in my mind...lol. Well done David. That perspective is damn hard to reduce. I straightened everything first (front view) and then only gave it perspective otherwise you got that leaning over effect. Me and my big mouth about 6 point perspective. This was as close as you can get.

Thank you Anna, lovely still image. I'm yet to watch your clip but i'm sure it will be as amazing.

I love your image Vibeke. Good insight.

Lovely clips Lloyd. The 2nd one is funny and great.

Michael and Gordon, well done. Very quick off the mark this week.

Frank, i'll have to watch your clip when I watch Anna's.

There was another angle I wanted to try but never had time. Would have loved to have seen David's run on it. I'm surprised no-one saw....the stairs, Look at the doors - stairs from a top view. If you want to step into the future, use stairs...Stair case dropping into distant perspective - level 0 would become cloud 9. Additional staircases reaching up from the surface of the earth way below

Re: Challenge 848: The time travel lift
First to step into the lift this week was Ben Mills, with a scene from Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life - great lighting, and a good sense of infinite space. I’d say the people are bit too large, though.

More British-inspired humour from lwc, with the lift sliding open to reveal a saluting Benny Hill. (What is it with non-Brits and Benny Hill? I don’t see his appeal.) I like the juddering action as the lift closes. I like the scrolling text in the second entry, although I’d like to see the lift button replaced with Hal’s trademark glowing red orb. A bit more perspective needed on the text?

A smartly opened lift from Mariner, with a well-sourced interior. A curious thing: the external sides appear to be leaning inwards, even though they’re clearly vertical. Some oddity at the top though, Michael: why does the panel extend on the left but not on the right? And is the top of the panel supposed to be at that rakish angle? I enjoyed the second entry, but it raises a few questions. Why is the man casting a shadow on the window? If it’s a reflection, then it’s in the wrong place. Why didn’t you repurpose some railing for the window beads, rather than using those thin plain lines? And there’s something very odd about the angle at which the woman is leaning, and the angle of the railing she’s leaning on. Shearing the railing up on the right might well fix the issue.

I enjoyed dwindt's conversion into bar storage - very neat, and highly convincing. And that’s a great couple of people in the second entry - Mixamo? Adobe Fuse?

It’s tornado time from DougD, with much atmospheric swirling. I like the lift as a portal - and the new sign, which reads “These time machines usually contain elevator music”. I like the atmosphere of the second entry, but that reshaped lift does seem at odds with the perspective of the room it’s in - whereas the original might have fit rather well.

It’s Doctor Who time from GKB, with a distinctly psychedelic interior emitting a sparking dalek. I like the Level Infinity marker. Some great visual effects in the animated version, and that’s a very well judged door open/close movement. Not sure about the cyberman just standing there; but the spinning Tardis is impressive. And you’re bang up to date with your choice of Doctor. Very entertaining.

Good straightening from michael sinclair, and I like the combination of the rocket and the stars cape inside. Those opening doors really need to be animated as three separate layers, though, performing a concertina action as they slide to the side.

Gorgeous work from tooquilos, with brass fittings reminding me of the Jules Verne-inspired Arts et Metiers metro station in Paris. Great to see it coming to life in the animated version, with a fine Doctor Who-like time tunnel sequence. And is that Petra at the end?

Truly astonishing work from DavidMac, who has taken my wide-angle perspective and used it to build a vast dystopian corridor. Where on earth did you find people from the right angles to match that bizarre selection of viewing angles? Glorious, David, and very thought-provoking. I could stare at this for hours. I’m sure you spent a lot of time and effort on the second entry, but it’s much less satisfying than the original; there was a purity there which has somehow been lost in the profusion of baffling perspectives.

Ingenious work from Vibeke, with the lift effecting an ageing process. A clever hint in the fact that the woman and the girl are wearing the same colour clothing. It’s the detail that really gets me here: the reflections in the back and sides showing perfect reverse views of the occupants. Really splendid, Vibeke, a masterful entry.

Great to see another animation from Frank, with a terrific soundtrack and a neatly animated C3PO. Some splendid graphic effects there, too. I enjoyed this one.

Cheers Steve. Got lazy on the second attempt, used the same squared up lift. Think it's because it took me so long square up and piece back together, I thought, I'm using it again. Should of used a different background.

Thanks Steve

I would have done more to animate the cyberman but I couldn’t find a suitable 3D model.

Well done everyone.

This one was a quicky, designed only to show the sneering sign on the wall. I took little care and just wanted to be in first. Failed again!

Why is the man casting a shadow on the window? If it’s a reflection, then it’s in the wrong place. Why didn’t you repurpose some railing for the window beads, rather than using those thin plain lines? It's a reflection. Would you like to show me where I should have put it?
I don't know why I used thin plain lines as part of the window frame. Sometimes we miss the obvious. That's why we have you!
The leaning man used to be a woman. She was extremely hard to find on the net, and I spent literally hours trying to bend her into shape, obviously with only limited success. Shearing the RHS of the railing would have required other changes so, with an eye on the clock, I let it go.
Thanks again Steve. It was a difficult challenge. Keep them coming!
