Challenge 861: St Francis
I came upon this rather fine painting of St Francis by Francisco de Zurbaran in the National Gallery. And I must say, he's done a very good job.

It could do with a better background, though, don't you think?

High res is here.

Whoa! That's pretty heavy David. Even I would struggle to listen to that

Me too! Even though I am a fan of some of the great heavy metal guitarists like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, that's far too raw for me. I just stumbled across it while looking for skull ideas and thought I would have a little tease.

I watched only a few seconds and came up with a splitting headache...

Re: Challenge 861: St Francis the Fraud
Seems our Francis is a bit of an imposter!

How long have you been waiting for the chance to use that pun?

The real one was a huge influence in my teens and twenties.

Funny idea Michael. For some reason, although I have done two entries, I didn't find a lot of inspiration in this rather pious gent.

Re: Challenge 861: St Francis
What a beautiful painting.

I created a back drop and ground plane for an alpha image of this amazing painting that I cut out in PS. I combined 2 different normal maps that I made in PS, to get the texture of the cloth and skin / skull and rendered it with iRay at 16 x 9. It has been cropped.

Another dark image but i'm happier with this one...so find yourself a dark spot a view it in dull light.....or lighten it...

All very much the same but different...

This animation is a little larger than my normal size, you can click on the image and go to full screen if you wish.

Serious lack of time this week as I am just about to go off to Scotland for a couple of weeks to do battle with the midges.

I thought that something quite surreal would fit this week; so here is surreal!

Re: Challenge 861: St Francis
Dennis it's great. I prefer the wider version. The skyline and trees help give context. I don't want to reopen old discussions of 3D vs 2D (anyone can see that 3D is your real medium) but wouldn't this one have been far simpler just in Photoshop?

Oh, I have waited many years for the chance. Seriously though, I was struggling for an angle on this FC and I suddenly had this felony flashback. He doesn't look so pious now, does he. More like he's screaming I think.

Thanks Michael - hopefully you can now see the correct video.

I have been having some serious problems with the website this morning. Can't edit posts and can't logout.
