Oh that's just splendid!

Good to see so many of you having fun with a subject that I found strangely difficult to get to grips with.

Steam punk aeronautics. More good fun. Very nice Gordon.

This wasn't the easiest of extractions. I see you cut out the fine diagonals on the railings. I ran out of patience with that. Or did you re-draw them afterwards? Either way it's beautifully done.

Re: Challenge 870: The floating caravan
Thanks David, I seriously toyed with adding a sailing ship’s rigging as well as the steam turbine and the fan engines but didn’t do it in the end.
The fine wires were easily cut out using Quick Mask and a teensy-weensy brush. I find it often is the quickest method particularly if straight lines are involved

Re: Challenge 870: The floating caravan
This is off brief, rather crudely done and has errors.

But I thought it interesting to post nonetheless. This odd little boat put me in mind of steel container architecture so I thought it would be fun to create some houseboat architecture. An exercise in perspective.

Apart from the fact that it's rather unfinished and roughly thrown together it has a major perspective anomaly. I modelled a basic 3D cube and then built the basic shape in 3D using this. I ported a 2D copy into photoshop and textured it there. So the perspective of the building taken on its own is correct.

However when put into the background it doesn't fit comfortably. The horizon line is correct as the camera is down inside the valley a bit and so the 'eye level' horizon is lower than the visible 'horizon'. However I modelled with too wide a 'lens' and so it doesn't sit comfortably in its background which was clearly taken with a longer focal length. By the time I realised what the problem was it was too late to go back and make another export without a lot of work.

I have posted nonetheless because for those of you who use 3D it is a perfect object lesson in the importance of analysing the background and establish vanishing points before you model.

Gordon, love both of those, especially the sails.

Thanks Vibeke. Your new motor home looks quite splendid. Are the hills near Nelson?

Vibeke despite its obvious implausibility it’s amazingly convincing and looks completely real.

Josephine! Love it!

Gordon, all I can think of is "Those Magnificent Men and their Flying Machines!" The sails finish it off. Brilliant.

David, it has potential. Excellent idea.

Vibeke, the fit is perfect.

Thank you Gordon, Quite a bit south of Nelson, near Wanaka, one of my favourite places.

Could have used your flying machine to get up there.

That entire area around Wanaka and Queenstown has to rate as some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
