Thank you Frank. Yes, I was struggling this week to find an interesting idea, so I just did another Dinky Toy. |

Re: Challenge 892:Sirens of Mars
Lots of fun stuff this week. Only time for a very simple quickie in which our astronaut meets Robbie and discovers that Mars isn't quite as barren as was thought. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 892: Back to the future
I modeled and manipulated all week, to no avail. Daz Gen 8 is still in his T-pose position...lol. I couldn't finish modelling the space suit. Lets say hes exercising. I preferred H.E Ross and Smith's sketch of the spaceman and suit seated in the rocket and that's what I tried. Too much and S.A.s governments load shedding in 15 minutes doesn't help. Well done everybody. I'll finish this at a later stage. It was great fun but lots of hard work. _________________ The grass is greener on the other side of the fence because there is more $hit there. |

Re: Challenge 892: Back to the future
First to don the space suit was lwc, with a well-crafted Martian assembly - and a great caption. I literally laughed out loud at this one. I like the flashing headlights, and the tiny alien. I really like the endless motion effect in the second entry, and I was surprised how well the planet movement works in the third entry when it really shouldn’t. Is that Boris wearing a mask? I like the fourth entry with its Meganaut Attacks poster, but feel it would be stronger if the planes were tinted to match all that flame. A beautiful composition from Frank, with nicely judged shadows and a neatly altered leg and arm. I like the fact that ET is poking his head up from the crater. Stark lunar lighting from Mariner, with a cleaned-up suit and slower gait. Does the cameraman suggest a faked landing? The new Dinky Toys entry is beautifully made. The only thing I’d question is that start checkerboard floor, which looks flat and artificial compared with the box and the wood panelling. Good walking action from michael sinclair, although I’m not sure why the lower background oscillates as he walks. I’m sure you put a lot of effort into this, Michael, but weren’t you even tempted to use the same image as everyone else? The pulsating codpiece is, er, curious. When I first saw Ant Snell’s entry I thought the spaceman had been turned into the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz - at least, that’s how the film would look if Tim Burton remade it. But it seems it’s just enthusiastic cosplay… and our spaceman does fit in there rather well. That’s surely a 3D modelled spacecraft from GKB - I like the two views of the spaceman. Great locations in the animated version, although there’s something disconcerting about the spacemen’s sliding motion. That’s a fine spaceship, though: your own creation? I like the Thunderbird 2 method which which it disgorges the DeLorean. And what a splendid closing title! It looks like tooquilos has gone subaqua, judging from the light beams - and, indeed, the diving helmet. A beautiful animated version, with a splendid four-legged spacecraft. A great song, too - and what a fun introduction. I see Josephine Harvatt has come over all political again - and yes, that is a somewhat startling vision of ten years hence. Judging from the flag, Boris has lost Wales and half of England… and still waiting for the Gray report! I’m glad DavidMac managed to find time for an entry this week - with much retro fun. I would, however, question the fact that the swimsuit model has one leg either side of Robbie, which suggests they join somewhere above waist level. I really like the colouring of the spaceman in the second entry, though, and its fine background. Good to see dwindt's work in progress - looks like a great background setting, I look forward to seeing the spaceman when he’s completed. I do think you need clearer lighting in your renders! |

Re: Challenge 892: Back to the future
Thanks Steve. The spaceship model was found on Sketchfab but it was only available as in the rather odd .ply format which Cinema doesn’t support so I had to convert it to .obj. Unfortunately there were no textures so I had to add them myself. I believe the model is of Ming the Mercilless’s space ship in Flash Gordon … I really need to get out more😜 I wasn’t happy with the second spaceman sliding in like that either. It was only some time later that it occurred to me to have him bouncing in like the Apollo astronauts in low lunar gravity. Glad you liked the closing title. As a matter of interest I once had access to a De Lorean - but I only used it from time to time 😂 _________________ |

Re: Challenge 892: Back to the future
The legs are only either side of Robbie's raised right arm. Not of Robbie himself. All done in a bit of a rush. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |
