Extraordinary. Such devastation. How on earth do people who live there cope with this level of destruction? Do they all get rehoused? |

Re: Drone video of Christchurch
The Christchurch people are a tough lot. Most just get on with their lives. My daughters mother-in-law (80+) lives there. Her house was only lightly damaged (about 50.000 pounds worth). We have stayed with her several times and at night, she puts her precious ornaments on the floor. She used to have weekly lunches for People from the worse hit areas. Many people have moved out, Nelson being a favourite destination. Unfortunately, many are still waiting for insurance payouts too. I always thought that you had an earthquake and survived or not and then got on with your life, never realised that aftershocks goes on for years. The people down there would sit around the inner table rate the quake and if it was 'only' around a 4, they would just carry on. One of the problems in Christchurch was that it was so shallow, only about 5km. We all learnt a new word too Liquefaction, there was so much sideway movement in the shakes that water and mud shifted to the surface and buried things with a couple of feet of mud. We do live on the Shaky Isles, have a look here to see how many earth quakes we have; http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/ _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |
