Create a chill
If you want to add a chill to an image try this.

Go to Colour Range and click on a patch of foliage. Change the fuzziness slider until the preview shows the appropriate areas selected. Click OK.

Create a new layer and fill with white. Add a mask to bring back areas that would not be snowy.

The shot below (right) was taken at the Great Central near Leicester last January on a chilly afternoon with awful flat light. The snow adds a little something to the scene. I like the way the gravel appears to have received a peppering of the white stuff.

This will not work on every image, but worth experimenting.

Nick

Thanks for that Nick. Great tutorial! I gave it go earlier and was quite impressed with the results!

Re: Create a chill
Great technique, Nick. Elements doesn't have the Color Range command so I used the Tragic Wand set to a low tolerance/discontiguous.

The snow is a one of my own techniques.

Re: Create a chill
I was just playing with this technique and thought I would share it. I'm amazed at the results. Thanks for that one Nick. I'll keep it in my memory bank.
