How to Store your images on Flickr.com and download them to the Friday Challenge (or anywhere)
First you will need to open an account at

https://www.flickr.com/

It should be a free account. You shouldn't need Flickr Pro, which costs money. Adverts are not a big problem on Flickr. Be aware that your images on Flickr can be downloaded by anyone in the world. But then, so can HtCiPS.

I shall now assume you have completed your image and are ready to publish it. It needs to be saved on your hard disk as a jpeg, although some other formats are acceptable.

1. Login to HtCiPS, click on to the Friday Challenge Forum, go down to the bottom of the last page to the Message Box.

2. In the message box type the following:

(Square bracket) img:

We will come back to this box later, so keep it open.

3. Open a new tab and go to Flickr.com. Login. Accept all cookies.

4. At the very top right hand side of the screen, between the search box and the bell there is a black arrow on a white cloud. Click it.

5. On the screen you should now have in blue and white text:

Choose Photos and Videos to Upload

Click that. Search for the image you wish to upload and click "open".

6. After a few seconds your image should appear on the Flickr screen. Don't botheer adding any descriptions - not needed. Click on the flashing blue and white box near the top RH corner which says

Upload 1 Photo

7. Next screen:

Upload 1 item with the following changes? Public. Upload

Click on Upload

8. Continue to Photostream

9. This is your personal Photostream and your image should now be visible. Click on it.

10. At the bottom right of this new screen there are 4 icons, one of which is an arrow curving to the right. If you hover over this arrow it will say "share photo". Click on the arrow.

11. Click on BBCode. Open the Sizes Box. Click on the one you want. The "Original Size" is right at the bottom of this list.

12. Copy the very long URL displayed above the Sizes Box

13. Reurn to your HtCiPS tab where you left img: and paste the URL after the colon.

You only want the text from // to jpg inclusive. Here's an example:

(Square bracket)img://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52499447295_f8b8eea2ce_o.jpg(Square bracket)

Delete the rest.

It''s missing an opening square bracket at the beginning and a closing square bracket at the end. This BBCode does not allow me to show square brackets as text. You will have to put them in yourself..

Click on Send to post if to the Forum.

You will usually need to refresh the page you are on before the picture will appear.

I would add one footnote to this. If you want to keep your images private except for those to whom you provide a link (such as described above) then you will need a paid subscription. Free Flickr is open and anyone can go to your account and look at everything and download it.

David I know that, but for the purposes of this tutorial it's probably irrelevant.

Yes. I missed that you had already said exactly the same thing at the start of the tutorial. Skimming too fast!

David, I cheated on that. At the top I had written UNDER CONSTRUCTION, so people would know. You must have missed that. So after reading your comments I felt free to make some alterations. Sorry.
