Re: Drawing in perspective
Patricia, Select All will indeed select the whole document - but if you want to work on just the ellipse, assuming it's on a separate layer, then you'll find that when you start to move it only the ellipse will be selected. Alternatively - again, assuming you've drawn the ellipse on a new layer - you could hold Command (Mac)/Ctrl (Windows) and click on the layer's thumbnail in the Layers panel, and it will load the ellipse as a selection. Welcome to the forum! Steve |

Re: Drawing in perspective additional question(s)
Once you have selected the ring why must I hold down the Option key when nudging with the up arrow key? What does that do? Also, when I do nudge the ring up then make a new layer (Command + J) the new layer is deformed and not the same shape as the the original ring. |

Re: Drawing in perspective_ I figured it out!
Make sure when you nudge the selection up to get the top layer of the ring that you have the move tool selected. I was doing it with the ellipse tool selected and when I created a new layer from the selection (Command + J) I was getting weird deformities. Also, I understand why you need to hold Option/Alt while nudging the selection. if you don't, the up arrow just moves the selection and doesn't create a new one. |

Re: Drawing in perspective
The instructions at the top of page 15 have been giving me trouble. Couldn't duplicate what Steve was doing. Found the key is: the move layer tool (tool in the top upper left) must be active first. Then, when you move your cursor over the ring, it turns into a scissors. When you hit Alt/Opt, it turns into a double arrowhead (indicating it will make copies, not cut). This "extrudes" the ring nicely. |

Thanks for pointing this out - I'll fix the instructions in later editions. |

Re: Drawing in perspective
Thank god for this forum. I was going nuts not understanding what I did wrong. Must've tried it like 10 times in a row! Finally see you have to change the tool first. ![]() |

Re: Drawing in perspective
Sorry to have caused to much trouble... the instructions obviously need to be much clearer here. The forum is here to help. Make good use of it. |
