The Still Life
Well - Can't believe I finished the book in such a short time! Steve - what's the chances there might be a 100% PS Vol. II?

I'm pretty happy with this one - with the exception of the tempo scale......I will redo that (but not today). I'm REALLY happy with the skull - it was almost like painting with an actual brush on canvas (which used to be my forte).

I'm tired and numb and not seeing too straight - so if anyone can see something that desperately needs attention, please advise.

Well - that's that, then. Now I must work on upgrading to PS CS5. It's looking hopeful.

Joey

Re: The Still Life
Joey,

Impressive work again Joey, particularly your rendering of the skull! Your painterly skills are shown.

I cannot see anything that needs attention.

CS5 has lots of useful additional features .... especially Extended ... more to learn

Hopefully Steve will give a second volume. I would suggest, with your new skills you can apply to your own creative 100% ideas and share with us like others do e.g. on Readers' gallery though not all 100% PS there.

I'm sure Steve et al will comment soon. Look forward to your on going work.

Trevor

Re: The Still Life
Thank you, Trevor. I always look forward to your comments. Yes, I do have images I'm looking forward to trying - 100% PS. Also, I
want to begin "Art & Design in PS". I've had the book a long time, but wasn't totally convinced of it's value until I got into 100% PS.

I don't think I mentioned before that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and my hands are totally beyond holding a brush or opening paint tubes, etc.........but BOY - can I ever hold onto my mouse! So, PS is a blessing for me - and Steve's books are my bible, so to speak. I can't imagine my life without a way to express my creativity. PS is my canvas and paint and brush...............

Well, sorry! I didn't mean to be so long winded.........but, I can't express my gratitude to Steve, and everyone connected with this forum in one or two words.

Enough..........Joey

Re: The Still Life
Joey, that's magnificent! I think you're the first person on the Forum to attempt this chapter to completion, and you've done a fantastic job on it. I love the way you've distressed the skull - so much better than my rather prosaic interpretation.

So sorry to hear that arthritis is preventing you from painting - but if it's brought you on to Photoshop, then I'd say that's one hell of a silver lining. As I always say, knowing how to use the tools is one thing, knowing what to do with them is another: and you certainly have the artistic spirit.

101% Photoshop? Well, I'd love to do another edition at some point, partly to include a couple of extra chapters and partly to correct some places where the meaning isn't as clear as it should be... but frankly, Joey, you have the skills to head off on your own and start creating whatever you can imagine. I'm sure the issue of technique won't hold you back!

Re: The Still Life
Joey,

I think you did an excellent job in this chapter. When I first did this chapter, I had trouble on drawing the skull. My first attempt at the skull was not very good. My second attempt was alot better. If interested here is the link to my picture. I know that there are some mistakes in my image.

I cant find anything wrong with your image, but I like the skull and the candle holder. Now that you have finished with the book, I hope you start creating something from scratch and post your images in the Readers' Gallery. I need to start creating something. I haven't post any new images nor done any new tutorial on creating something from scratch.

Re: The Still Life
Joey that is magnificent work ... the skull, the cloth beneath, the books, metronome, candle, holder and wine glass are all beautifully rendered and detailed. Thank you for sharing this fine piece of work.
Cheers
Vern

Re: The Still Life
Steve - thank you! Yes - one hell of a silver lining - and I intend to take full advantage as long as I'm able.

The "distressed" aspect of the skull was inspired by some very distressed (some by design, some by accident) skulls that I've sculpted, back in the day. I can still feel the clay in my hands, and it transfers nicely, I think. (Does that make sense?)

Luis - thank you, too! And, I LOVE the brick wall in your version - that works really well! Thanks for the link - is there a way I can access early 100% PS forum stuff? I'm really interested in the problems others faced and their solutions.

Vern, thank YOU for checking it out - but OH!?! You left out the table top - you didn't like it???

Well - I'm definately going to begin some new projects - wish me luck.

Joey

PS I love you!

Re: The Still Life
Joey,

Rheumatoid Arthritis a difficult one. My mother has it and my sister going in the same direction. I know some others who had it very bad. Its very painful as well.

Its great PS gives you the means to express your creativity. Like you I would be lost with not being able of expressing creativity. I also use the mouse for pen and painting, its under control!

More than this, PS keeps the technical brain alive. The more frequently use your skills , the faster it gets and feels more like a dance when mind goes straight to medium of expression. Just like painting, I get this feeling with photoshop quite often. But need to learn more and practise often.

Your post not long winded. Look at this! As some might observe I can go on for much longer

A bit of a mantra, don't give up learning and applying.

Again do share your work and experience with us when you can. We all learn and can challenge each other.

I'd better go! ...

Trevor
