Not being very technical I'm just guessing what's inside. |

Heh I am really stuck on this one but am enjoying everyone's entries so far. I haven't got a clue what they look like inside either _________________ I'm not really bad - I just draw that way |

Josephine - I was a little stuck but I Googled for "inside monitor", "inside mouse", "inside keyboard" and found what I needed pretty quickly. The speaker was the most difficult so I had to improvise the back part of the speaker. But you don't have to put circuit boards in there you could have anything in there perhaps a copy of Steve's book or something. |

Re: Contest 249: Damien's iMac
According to my understanding Maiden has rendered it very well. I agree with Maiden, just be creative, you can't see much of interest inside (apart from the very complex engineering / science that helped create it, but that is virtual) Not sure this helps? A bit techy boring....... Excuse me, just ignore (I followed the history of LCD development, I am physist and have friend working at Samsung, take things apart (not witha chain saw ) so have some credence I hope. For the LCD monitor there is a sandwich of layers for the Display part (8+). The liquid crystals (LC) are in the centre. Each other layer has its own function. There is a back light behind all of this. There is some circuitry with ICs for interface from PC and all around the sides ((or two) of the display to trigger the matrix for each R, G, B pixel. You need a microscope to see what is etched/substrated on the glass layers next to the liquid crystal (according to my understanding). Some of this confidential propriety to companies, but also patented. So I reckon if you illustrate ~8 thin layers for the screen section, some backlight and some small circuities around the lower edge it should be okay. The keyboard internals are a bit boring, you can see most of it when if look down your keys. Each key is just a switch at the bottom with plastic engineering to make it feel tactil. Some small circuits/ICs to interface to PC at the back. For the speakers, I would have put the cones against the front of the housing, and add a little bit of circuits/ICs. Not much to the mouse above what Maiden has done, just a little lazer and camera at the base to read the reflection/motion from the mat as you move it (very small). I am not sure how to render this with some interest, but have some bizare ideas |

I hope I got the perspective right. I have spent all day on this. Could have built a real cabinet faster. Highres here: http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z206/friis-kiwi/mymac.jpg _________________ Perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize. |

Thought I'd cut length ways but not entirely sure if it worked as well as I had envisaged LOL http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/aa164/tooquilos/?action=view¤t=isaw.flv _________________ Dorothy: "there's no place like home!" |

Sorry Steve, I mis-read your instructions; I thought you said "cut the iMAC in half and put it in a glass tank"! _________________ If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you ever tried. |

Thank you Nick and Josephine. Nick, I love the way the hand is coming out of the computer. Good Stuff! Gordon, your glass tank is fantastic. Did you make it? If so, Id love to know the technique you used. _________________ Wicked Witch of the West:I'll get you, my pretty! And your little dog, too! |

Re: Contest 249: Damien's iMac
Hi Anna, Another excellent piece of animation. The tank is actually a 3D model which I've had lying around my hard drive for a while. It also featured in the Dodo challenge a few weeks ago. To make it look like this I opened it up in Cinema 4D and just dumped all the "tanky" colours and replaced them with a new 'glass' material. This was rendered out with an alpha channel for opening in Photoshop. Gordon _________________ Maturity is knowing when and where to be immature |

Josephine is correct, I recognise the error and will try to put it right, but I think time will out. http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s211/fungismith/mac-4.gif |

Some very good entries this week! I have to learn a lot I see! James, how do you animate these things? Great work! Digital Dutchman |
