I was thinking to myself as I was doing this challenge - would it ever have crossed his mind, that 400 years in the future, a group of people would be taking the mickey out of him? Would he be annoyed or flattered?

Probably aghast that a rabble of serfs would be so disrespectful to their social superior!
Dont you ever get bored with being brilliant Anna?

Very ‘Terry Gilliam’ Sara. I have been watching and waiting for a large foot to appear from the sky with a loud raspberry sound.

Some wonderfully silly entries this week; I particularly liked the stockings. Captain Lee must be spinning in his grave

It's not what you think: I ran out of time to "reconstruct" the glove, so there was only one place I could put it.

NO Animation this week!

Thanks, Gordon. The animation is up now. Sorry about the foot, though.

Re: Challenge 747: Captain Lee
First to clothe the errant Captain was lwc, with an entertaining pair of comedy pantaloons - complete with matching clown shoes (and great angles on the shoes). A fun Mexican take in the second entry, inspired by the sombrero-like ring on his back. I like how you’ve warmed up the background to match. A fascinating third entry, with expertly chosen new legs which make sense of the feminine pose. Very cute.

A guest appearance in Monty Python and the Holy Grail from DavidMac, with an umbrella neatly hiding his modesty. No less than four versions make up the second entry, with Lee in rather more modern apparel: I like the Bermuda shorts best.

The wrong trousers from Ben Mills - or, rather, the trousers from the Wallace and Gromit film of that name, nicely recoloured to match the clothing. A slightly low-slung bottom, perhaps?

Flower power from GKB, with Captain Lee slotting into the Sgt Pepper scene, and all very tastefully done. He seems a natural in there. And I like the pantomime ostrich (wild guess) in the second entry, with artfully placed false legs and furry shoes. Splendid.

The first (and perhaps only) person to take this week’s Challenge seriously was Frank, with an entirely appropriate set of leg and footwear. Very fine work, Frank; the sporran thing really ties it all together. Faultless.

Naughty work from Josephine Harvatt, but so neatly done you just have to admire it. I see he’s put on a few pounds since 1594. You’re absolutely right about the disappearing sword - I hadn’t noticed. Bizarre.

Identity-preserving censorship from Tom, and unusually for Tom there’s no glowing light, mystic symbolism or skeletons involved. Admirable self restraint!

Saucy work from Ben Boardman, with a perfectly posed maiden with naughtiness on her mind. Really nicely done, and I like the added shirt ruff.

A fashion statement from Linda Eckert, with Lee interviewing Karl Lagerfeld. And I think Lagerfeld would probably have approved.

Very subtle work from Vibeke, with Lee crossing his legs in a tense moment: where’s the toilet, indeed. So glad you were able to post this week, Vibeke, after the terrible events in Christchurch. Our thoughts are with you.

A fine piece of period cross-dressing from tooquilos, artfully contained within a vintage magazine cover. The animated version left me speechless: a stunning recreation of a toy theatre, with splendidly jerky character animation and four full theatrical scenes. Really amazing work. Just one question: why does Lee have his noose worn backwards? Terrific work, Anna. Love he curtain call.

A homage to Terry Gilliam from srawland, with the gradient floor and simple cutouts neatly matching his early Monty Python style. An utterly appropriate animated version, with a perfectly judged soundtrack. The mouth and eye movements at the end are a neat bonus. Just two points: why the vertically scrolling ink spots? And, er, why did you misspell his name in the title?

Splendid remodelling from Mariner, with a new background, clothing and raunchy companion. I like the way his helmet, sword and gun are stacked against the tree, and how you’ve turned his hand around to hold the rose. I particularly like the treatment of the woman’s translucent dress. Remarkable work, Michael.

I’m trying to think what michael sinclair took from my instructions to come up with his entry, and I think it must have been the word “soldier”. Still, good to see you’re back on Napoleonic form, even if the sky isn’t shimmering.

Glorious work this week. I can never predict what’s going to inspire you.

Thanks Steve. A very funny week, even if I was not terribly inspired personally.

Re: Challenge 747: Captain Lee
Thanks Steve

The ‘legs’ are from British comedian Bernie Clifton’s Oswald the Ostrich which he would ‘ride’ onto the stage.

Had lots of fun with this one.

Re: Challenge 747: Captain Lee
Thank you, Steve. The vertically scrolling ink spots were actually supposed to be dust spots. If you watch his early animations there are dust spots on the film. The only explanation I have is that they were on the glass pane he used to hold the paper pieces flat and in place as he snapped each shot.

The title wasn't misspelled so much as miss-capitalized. The font that Vimeo uses has the capital "I" looking the same as a small "l". I've corrected it now.

My second entry would have had a skeleton included.

Thank you Steve, we are still in shock, not what we expected to happen here. So sad for the victims and their families, however, I have to say the perpetrator totally failed in his intentions. He has brought us all closer and made us re-examine our thoughts and attitudes. I hope we will all be more accepting and less judgmental of other races and religions.
