Who could have sat here?

A statue of Simon Peter might have sat there. Saint Peter later became the first Pope of Rome. He was crucified upside down by Nero's men. Nero had earlier accused the christians of starting the great fire of Rome.

Where are they now?

The original 13th century bronze of Saint Peter has been attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio and is on display in the Basilica in Vatican City. After extensive research I was unable to find any evidence that a copy ever existed.

And how on earth are you going to cope with the extreme perspective?

By creating lines to vanishing points and correcting any image distortions. In this case only the base unit was in need of much alteration.

Lovely images everybody especially Michael, who stuck to brief this time, with a clever submission.

Not much time to play now days as the shipping industry bares down on the festive season. God bless you all.

Excellent work Michael. You stuck to the brief.

On my entry the chair detail can be found at

Michael Mariner and Michael Sinclair - wow! Beautiful work. The same goes for Dennis and Frank. Well done.
Ben, I love your Marie Laveau.

Re: Challenge 977: The vacant chair
First to deal with the chair this week was Josephine Harvatt, who’s clearly in a sombre mood – but then after the news of recent events, who can blame her. The Russell quote is spot on, and I like the skeleton’s pose.

An altogether more relaxed skeleton from tooquilos, still wearing his trousers and shoes. The graveyard, though, is a far from restful place. The hands are excellent! I like the rolling clouds and rippling water in the animated version. Haven’t come across Rawpixel, so thanks for the tip.

Lavatorial humour perfectly realised by GKB. Rodin would be delighted. I like the text on the plinth, and the detail of the pile of magazines. The shadow behind the basin makes it look like it isn’t connected to the wall, though.

A haunting image from lwc – what is it about dolls that makes them so scary? Glad the spider webs came in useful! But those scuttling spiders really creep me out. I like the old photo version, too. I found the vacant mind entry rather entertaining – and no, that’s not a friend, just someone who agreed to be photographed. A truly bizarre spinning chair entry, with a grisly zombie. Distorting chairs feature in the stabbing version, which is truly gruesome. The final ghost image is absolutely glorious!

Toilet time as well from Ben Boardman, with a rather splendid throne. An imaginatively decorated inside to the door, too. The plinth barbecue is a good addition. What’s the man in the background carrying? A splendid graveyard image, with a huge array of skeletons – including a pair in the background indulging their passion. What fun. As far as I can see, though, the only difference in Take 2 is the size of the skeleton behind the plinth – is that right?

I have heard of Sanford and Son but never seen an episode – although Frank's junkyard image does get the point across (the UK original was called Steptoe and Son). Now there’s an image that needs a caption!

I see I’m making a guest appearance in GKB's Antiques Roadshow tribute. I seem to have lost a neck in the process, although I have gained a rather sharp suit. Amazing what one finds in the attic. I like the political entry – very apposite this week.

A haunting image from Frank, and what I like best about it is the way everything blends together so well. The skull on the back of the chair is a good fit, and the fog ties it all together. Great lighting, too. Excellent.

A perfect rebuild from Mariner, the dusting man adding a useful touch of humour to the austere statue. Well done finding (or modifying) St Peter from just the right angle, as well as matching the angle of the new chair to the original. I like the glass box in the base, but surely it’s crying out for a relic!

A bang on-topic michael sinclair this week, the chair very neatly integrated into the Lincoln statue. The slight difference in angle makes him look like he’s lounging rather than sitting upright, which is no bad thing. Very neatly done.

A beautiful Pope image from dwindt, with excellent lighting. How long does it take you to source all the props? Or dress a sitting pope? Glorious work.

What’s the man in the background carrying?
That’s the Dunny Man. When there was no sewerage, this poor soul had to go door to door to collect the waste & usually access client’s outhouses via the back lane and would visit to ensure a clean outhouse.
The difference in Take 2 – apart from the skeleton, lower saturation, and a bit bluer to enhance the moonlight effect.
Really enjoyed this one Steve. Thank you.

Thanks Steve. High praise!

Simon Peter was a fisherman until he met Jesus, so I was tempted to put a goldfish in the tank, or even last week's octopus, or even an angler fish, but I managed to control myself!

Re: Challenge 977: The vacant chair
Thank you Steve.

Well done everybody.

Steve, I've got 360 GBs of Daz content which cover a wide variety of subjects. Additionally, I have about 40 GBs of 3D meshes that can be textured and manipulated at will. What I can't find, I model and map myself, if it's not to hard. What I can't find in 3D content, I add in with Photoshop. After rendering a scene, I blend them all together in PS.

I had all content for this image in my Daz content, including the bishop's outfit. So that all goes together quickly. The time-consuming part is modeling the chair and making the maps for the detail, which I do in PS. I added the light rays in and tweaked the image with PS.
