Challenge 887: Pindar's window
This oak window was taken from a house built in London around 1600, and owned by one Sir Paul Pindar. The house was demolished in 1890 and the window is now the property of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Can you find a suitable building that would be enhanced by the addition of such a glorious architectural element? Matching the perspective might be tricky. What goes on inside the windows is, of course, up to you. High res is here. |

Re: Challenge 887: Pindar's window
When I looked at this, I felt that just bolting it onto a house was rather too easy and unexciting, especially with so many ready made examples in the image banks. I felt something different and more challenging was needed. So I decided to try and turn it inside out and reverse its perspective so as to produce an impression of how it might have looked from inside. Quite what prompted me to come up such a mind bogglingly stupid idea I'm not sure. I almost gave up half way through but, being an obstinate sort, I carried on, even as I got deeper and deeper into trouble. A salutary lesson in biting off more than is chewable. In the end I almost pulled it off. Lots of rough edges and anomalies but still well worth posting. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Wow! Thank you Michael. How nice to know it was worth it. About seven hours of seriously frustrating hard graft went into this. It's not something I shall be attempting again in a hurry. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Agree with David - I wanted to try something other than "bolting it to a house" - besides the perspective is terrible to work with. |

Frank what a great and totally surprising idea! The gilding is incredibly convincing. Love the touch of the plastic bucket too. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Thanks David and Dennis - had to force a little steam out the ears to think outside the box. Since the theatre is closed I tossed in the cleaning person for an extra touch. |

Nice work frank Sorry about the loss of quality, but I had to reduce image size to qualify for the 20 mb limit ( 94 fames). I set the gold structure to Lighten |

Alternative History Most of us have been raised on conventional history. But those who know real history (Aka Facebook) know that Sir Paul Pindar created the first ever solar powered dirigible capable of rising high enough to prove that the earth is irrefutably flat. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Back to your's Dennis. I have no idea what was your intention, but I love that it can be simultaneously viewed as a spacecraft or the stern of a ship. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

http://vimeo.com/655957341 David, both entries are fabulous. Frank, this take box seats to a new level! Love it. Dennis, until David mentioned the stern of the ship, I hadn't noticed but now, that's all I see. It's beautiful! If you can arrange for it to be moored at the local marina, I would be really happy! Mr Pindar would never have imagined his windows could be so versatile! _________________ Dorothy: Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore |

Love your video, Anna, and the music. I don't know why, but for the first time in a long time I was able to view your video without logging in to Vimeo. Just like it used to be. |

"Pindar's". Not a bad name for a disco! The opening lighting effects with the beams are very well done. _________________ The subtlety and conviction of any Photoshop effect is invariably inversely proportional to the number of knobs on it ....... |

Re: Challenge 887: Pindar's window
Dennis, at first I thought it was the White House, then it appeared to be the rear of a sailing vessel. Very good, but would have been even better if the sea was visible rather than a "greyed-out" section, and I'm sure the site owner would agree here. Anna, last week "nah", but this week wonderful!!!: that Macdonald better watch out. |
