Cheap strobe lights like this must be available in your country.

It means switching your rig to continuous running successive drips for strobe lit analysis during which you can adjust height, liquid depth and viscosity.

Watching running drips lit by a strobe is little short of miraculous. As you adjust the flicker speed and get close to drip frequency the drops appear to slow down until they quite literally stop and float immobile in mid air. (You can even make them appear to defy gravity and rise back up into the nozzle )

Once the drops are frozen so are the splashes and you can see with the naked eye the kind of shape and form they are taking. It's far from perfect but enough to get a very good prediction and to make the necessary basic adjustments by eye before you start photographing and fine tuning as you do now.

Obviously this implies the ability to switch your rig between continuous running for the analysis and then back to single drop once you have set the rig and liquid as you want them. I have no idea whether this is possible or not. But, if it is, it might be worth a try. The investment is minimal and it could save you a lot of frustration and headache .......

....... and, what's more, ....... it's fun!

Re: How I'm wasting my time
Thanks David,
Didn't realise you could get strobe lights at such reasonable prices, I will start looking.

Just make sure you get one with variable speed control.
