Barcelona
I need ideas, I have 2 nights in Barcelona with my husband, daughter and grand daughter in July. Any suggestions of what to see and where to stay to see it. Preferably something small and cosy and not too expensive.
If you don't know of any hotels, even which area to stay in would be appreciated.

Barcelona
Vibeke,

Barcelona, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. You will love it …

If you have two days, you should definitely live close to Las Ramblas which is the main street. At one end of Las Ramblas you have the harbour view, and at the other end you have Passeig de Grŕcia where you can see La Pedrer (in addition to many nice restaurants and expensive shops)!

There are so many things to do and to see in Barcelona, but if you have a couple of days I recommend:

- Gaudi’s work: Sagrada Família, Park Guell (you have a very nice view of the whole city from there) and La Pedrera

- Las Ramblas itself, and a lot of beautiful/historical buildings and restaurants in its side streets.

- If you are willing to take a 1 ˝ hours train to Figueres, Dalí Museum is there and it is fantastic.

- If you have time (and are interested) they have a very nice zoo in Barcelona which is loctated very close to Las Ramblas. The city’s symbol which is a white monkey is living there!

Let me know if you need more information ... I used to live there for about a year when I was a student (long time ago ) but I have been visiting the city regularly after that.

Cheers

Re: Barcelona
I agree with Daniel. The Sagrada Familia is nearing completion, and it's one of the most extraordinary buildings in the world. Glorious.

The Dali Museum is good if you like Dali. Enough said.

Also worth checking out the aquarium, which is rather spectacular.

When we went, we stayed in an apartment booked through this company. The advantage is that it's much cheaper than a hotel, and you get much more space.

Barcelona is beautiful. You'll love it.

Re: Barcelona
Agree with all comments so far.

I would recommend Dalí Museum and Figueres, if to your groups taste. An experience.

Trains and bus networks work very well. Metered Taxis fine too.

Only to save you negative experience, not dangerous, but please do keep secure against pickpockets.

Its a pity you don't have more time to travel around the area. Spain is a great place. I enjoy their hospitality and friendship.

Of course recommend the Tapas bars for the food. Spain has great sea food.

Sorry can't really help much on accommodation above obvious search. The hotel we stayed at was not so convenient. Its quite difficult to get spaces as many Europeans go away for weekend breaks. (I've also camped there! and made the business trips!, but guess those out of context this time).

Re: Barcelona
have booked an apartment, looks like it is in the right area and the right price, what really sold me on this one was that it has a terrace.
Thanks, it's all starting to fall into place.

That's the standing joke in the family, asking if I have my camera.
Even my grand daughter has started to ask me.
They always expect me to say 'YES"

Splendid! I do hope you've found time to go inside the Sagrada Familia. It really is worth the trip.

I'm afraid I missed out on that, by the time we got there, we were rather tired and the line was extremely long. It was before I found out about booking this places on the internet.
Still having a great time, now just south of Banoyles.
